College GameDay Reveals Celebrity Guest Picker for Miami-Florida

There's got to be some connection, even a tenuous one, for this to work. I guess ESPN wants to promote hockey and we're the test subject. Tkachuk is a great player and apparently a fan, but nobody associates the NHL or him with Miami football. I suppose they could have found some country western singer so it could be worse.

He's the catalyst for the Florida Panthers emergence as a hockey power. This is a move for south Florida & I love it. No surprise that our fan base, being national, would be divided on this.

The Florida Panthers are the best run team in all 4 major sports in the nation at the moment. If you don't care for hockey, I get it, but this is good juju.
I’m a Panthers fan and think it’s dumb as ****. A hockey player has no business representing Miami, imo.

ESPN’s College GameDay is heading to Miami this weekend, and the show has announced its celebrity guest picker. Florida Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk will join the crew on set Saturday morning before the big game between the Miami Hurricanes and the Florida Gators.

This will be the first time an NHL player has been the guest picker on GameDay. Tkachuk, who helped lead the Panthers to the Stanley Cup earlier this year, will bring some hockey flavor to a football Saturday in South Florida.

The pick surprised some fans since Tkachuk doesn’t have ties to either Miami or Florida football. Still, he’s one of the biggest names in South Florida sports right now, and his energy should make for a fun show.

The rivalry game between Miami and Florida is set for Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.

I like it!

Is he a Canes fan? That dude was born in Arizona, played professionally in Calgary for six years before coming to Miami.
Who cares man. He plays for the Panthers and lives here in South Florida, that’s good enough for me. Especially when the other option was pitbull who has a stadium named after him at FIU. Lol So I’ll gladly take the hockey player.

As a star for the only south Florida professional sports franchise who doesn’t suck ***, Tkachuk is a great choice. Maybe his back to back Stanley Cup influence can rub off on the Canes.

So as long as you’re okay with it? Got it. Selfish ******* 😂😂

Some of you all will complain about anything. Guest picker isn't to satisfy Canes fans; it's to draw eyeballs. A lot of these guest pickers don't have a connection to the school. Guy is a back-to-back Cup champ in the area. It's fine.

And honestly, who cares? Win the game.
Dude isn’t drawing eyeballs lol

If he brings the cup it’d be cool tho

Gameday isn’t a commercial for south Florida. Or Miami for that matter. It’s supposed to be a showcase of the university of Miami, and an unknown hockey player isn’t going to pull in more applications, or croots, or whatever metric they use to determine success of an event like this. Kinda hard to sell UM when you have nothing to do with it.

That said, it’d be sweet if he brings the cup.

You're entitled to your opinion. In my opinion, Miami loves a winner. He is that. My choice would've been Michael & then Jimmy.

I wouldn't have cared for whoever else it was but I wouldn't have complained because it doesn't matter, to me in the end I guess.

The Panthers Organization will probably let him bring the Cup to Gameday and hoist it at the University before an adoring crowd.

This is a business arrangement between the Panthers, the University, and ESPN.
Adoring crowd? There’s probably like UM students who care about the Stanley Cup and the Panthers.

Wow. What are you basing any of this on? Your first 2 sentences are simply untrue. The university is in South Florida whether you like it or not. I specifically remember them talking about Desmond living down here & mentioning local spots in Miami.

Granted I haven't really watched in years but when I did, they didn't exclusively talk about the Hosting University. Plenty of stories about fans & other things related to them in their area.

Also GameDay in 2017 went as well as it could go. What did it amount to in the end? If you can show me any proof of those "metrics" you mentioned being reality then I'll concede. ****, I really don't care. He's not a Cane & I get that. I'm fine with it.
