I’m a Panthers fan and think it’s dumb as ****. A hockey player has no business representing Miami, imo. He's the catalyst for the Florida Panthers emergence as a hockey power. This is a move for south Florida & I love it. No surprise that our fan base, being national, would be divided on this.
The Florida Panthers are the best run team in all 4 major sports in the nation at the moment. If you don't care for hockey, I get it, but this is good juju.
ESPN’s College GameDay is heading to Miami this weekend, and the show has announced its celebrity guest picker. Florida Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk will join the crew on set Saturday morning before the big game between the Miami Hurricanes and the Florida Gators.
This will be the first time an NHL player has been the guest picker on GameDay. Tkachuk, who helped lead the Panthers to the Stanley Cup earlier this year, will bring some hockey flavor to a football Saturday in South Florida.
The pick surprised some fans since Tkachuk doesn’t have ties to either Miami or Florida football. Still, he’s one of the biggest names in South Florida sports right now, and his energy should make for a fun show.
The rivalry game between Miami and Florida is set for Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
Who cares man. He plays for the Panthers and lives here in South Florida, that’s good enough for me. Especially when the other option was pitbull who has a stadium named after him at FIU. Lol So I’ll gladly take the hockey player. Is he a Canes fan? That dude was born in Arizona, played professionally in Calgary for six years before coming to Miami.
So as long as you’re okay with it? Got it. Selfish *******Who cares man. He plays for the Panthers and lives here in South Florida, that’s good enough for me. Especially when the other option was pitbull who has a stadium named after him at FIU. Lol So I’ll gladly take the hockey player.
Dude isn’t drawing eyeballs lolSome of you all will complain about anything. Guest picker isn't to satisfy Canes fans; it's to draw eyeballs. A lot of these guest pickers don't have a connection to the school. Guy is a back-to-back Cup champ in the area. It's fine.
And honestly, who cares? Win the game.
I agreeShould have been @Trinton Breeze
Gameday isn’t a commercial for south Florida. Or Miami for that matter. It’s supposed to be a showcase of the university of Miami, and an unknown hockey player isn’t going to pull in more applications, or croots, or whatever metric they use to determine success of an event like this. Kinda hard to sell UM when you have nothing to do with it.He's the catalyst for the Florida Panthers emergence as a hockey power. This is a move for south Florida & I love it. He's repping The U. And Go Cats! I get it if it were Barkov or Bob, but this dude is one tough SOB and Team USA all the way.
You're entitled to your opinion. In my opinion, Miami loves a winner. He is that. My choice would've been Michael & then Jimmy.I’m a Panthers fan and think it’s dumb as ****. A hockey player has no business representing Miami, imo.
Adoring crowd? There’s probably like UM students who care about the Stanley Cup and the Panthers. The Panthers Organization will probably let him bring the Cup to Gameday and hoist it at the University before an adoring crowd.
This is a business arrangement between the Panthers, the University, and ESPN.

That said, it’d be sweet if he brings the cup.
