Coaching staff retention

That's your opinion to have but a person that has been an NFL HC is not garbage. Has also been an OC on multiple playoffs teams. In the college ranks, that is way above what most college teams have. Joe Brady would do that for Miami. In fact, even with me liking Dawson, I would let him go for Joe Brady.
That's not my opinion to have, that's just a fact. Arthur Smith is ******* garbage in the same way that Matt Patricia is ******* garbage. They rely on talent and nothing more. Schematically, they're poorly set up, they can't adjust and they cannot maximize talent. In fact, all they do is have their star players bail them out. Keep these idiots far away from me.

Joe Brady at least has evidence that he can do something schematically and even that is starting to fade away because his in-game-strategy is horrid.

We need to follow the same strategy as we did when we hired our DC: young, wanting to prove himself, innovative and a willingness to put kids into the right place and develop them.

The moment we start to hire NFL guys as coordinators, we've gotten lazy with hiring processes and just go with the big name. If Dawson happens to leave for something else, and we want experience handling the unit, hire ******* Matt Wells. But don't go the NFL route just because they went to the NFL, that's lazy.

Joe Brady is interviewing for head coaching jobs in the NFL, he's not going to be an OC in college. He also hates recruiting.

Where is Dawson going? Legit what job is open that he would leave for? I don’t see him as an NFL OC and which HC jobs are still open that are paying close to $2m

Imagine how different things turn out if Miami had a special teams coordinator that

1) landed a better FG kicker
2) taught how to block on punt safe
3) taught how to block flyers on a punt return

17 pt swing in the national championship game.
Special teams was the difference in the game but I don’t think the solution is as simple as giving someone the title “special teams coach”. I mean, there are staff members who coach the special teams units. It’s not like they’re out there in practice just playing Pokémon go while the other units are doing drills.

We brought in multiple FBS transfer kickers. Davis was 14-15 on field goals during the regular season. I just think the number of college kickers who can consistently drill 50 yarders in the championship game is really small. We got spoiled by having the Botregales brothers and their NFL legs but the Carter Davis of the world are far more common

IMO - Dawson is a very good OC & we would be very good once again on offense, if he comes back. The players that we have already + adding Mensah & Barkate should make us a top 5 offense in 2026. The only other OC I would want is an NFL offensive mind like Ohio St did with Arthur Smith. In the NFL, they aren't considered elite but that type of mind in college, IS. Joe Brady is one that comes to mind for me. If he doesn't get the Bills, Cardinals, Raiders or Browns job, maybe he decides to come back to college, win a championship and get a HC position in 2027. Once you interview for a HC spot, you most likely dont go back to that team as anything less. Most OC jobs would be taken at that point. Going to college and proving to everyone AGAIN that you are THAT dude, would make him very wanted in the 2027 cycle, both in college and NFL.

Thoughts @DMoney ?
NO ******* WAY.
NO ARTHUR SMITH.

AS A STEELERS FAN I HAD TO ENDURE HIM FOR WAY TOO LONG.

NO ******* WAY.

you seem to be new here and a yute. i will be the OC at Miami before Joe Brady.

Totally agree. Any thoughts on the punter & his moving further than normal to his right on kick. Our boy Lance thought it was more on the punter than our beleaguered TE.
Maybe so, maybe not. But the guy didn’t even engage. If he blocked him and pushed him to the side and then the punter went into him, I could get more on board with it. With that effort and the matador block, I can’t.

Trumpycane wants to know if you’ve heard of Adam Gase, Joe Judge, etc

Don’t disagree, but thought Lance raised a point that hadn’t previously been considered.

The days of us have to hire TE/ST or RB and Recruiting Co. combos are long gone.

Look at the UM coaching staff we have 1 Special Teams coach (Kalter) and 2 assistant ST Coaches (Isa. Clay James)

Even have 3 dudes listed as “QB coaches” (Max Drisko, Ed O som and forgot the other) and another guy (Mike Cassano) listed as chief offensive strategist though I think his title has changed.

Kalter, is that really his last name?

The jokes for STs kind of write themselves.

In the past, it normally “reopens” after the Feb signing day.

This and once the NFL starts completing their staff hirings, dominos begin to fall, affecting college coaching staffs.
Heck, look at the Dolphins' new HC. I believe he coached with Schiano. So did another coach on our staff. Things happen.
