Coaching staff retention

We can upgrade over Dawson.. but there is no upgrading over Heatherman

Dawson last two years had the number #1 offense, and a team playing in the ship. He isn't being asked to leave. Is he the greatest? No, but he's good enough.

Our offense was somewhat handicapped this past year cause:
1) Beck (who was a great game manager btw) is not Cam Ward (or Mensah for that sake), missed spring, and coming off a serious surgery
2) lack of true deep threat/vertical passing game

No one was calling for Dawson's head in 2024, and continuity at the coordinator positions is vastly beneficial. Only way he gets let go is if next year is a total disaster on O. With all the weapons at WR and the entire RB room being back, I find it hard to see that happening.

Who said anything about being let go.. the rumors are both could be interviewing for jobs.

Dawson aint getting a NFL OC job and all HC jobs in college are filled. Where would he go?
He has such a good situation here but I can understand wanting to be a head coach.

To me it’s either forever be content at coaching at a smaller school with lesser demands but it’s your show so you can be a little more relaxed since Mario is demanding.

Or stay here get paid well but work for a demanding coach where a bad a season or two can put you on the hot seat

Dawson is the best OC we have had in over 20 years. He definitely does some things I don't care for and doesn't do some things I would like. On repeat, this isn't his offense and their are dumb things being written about him per usual. I thought Monken might want to interview him and I am glad that isn't happening. As far as JT and Harris, I hope we can retain them. Just because they interview, it doesn't mean they are leaving. This also happened last season with staff. I would love to retain everyone and wish Woodiel the best. We will be fine, regardless.

If we lose Taylor, there is only one man who can replace him.

Coach O.
That's a move I could get behind, especially if Coach O is still hungry on the recruiting trail. If Miami is getting the demon on the trail Ed Orgeron, I'm for it. That said, he lost that fire once he won the title at LSU, and I don't know if you can ever get that back...

I completely Agree. I dont Think Taylor is leaving but that’s exactly who we should start the search with if that were to happen. He’s around the program a lot the last few years plus 2 of his kids are on our football staff as well

It is only normal for NFL teams to start making interviews for assistant personnel. However, especially in regards to the college game, it is mostly about finding out where somebody is at with their heart and what they want to do moving forward.

I do anticipate Taylor leaving at some point in his career if the opportunity arises in the NFL, but only after he assumes defensive playcalling. I do not believe that Taylor will go to the NFL without that happening - a) because NFL teams will want him to do that and b) going to coach a position group like D-Line in the NFL is essentially a block in the road if you want to advance in your coaching. Most DCs in the NFL are either LB or DB coaches, not D-Line.

Hetherman leaves before Taylor does and since he was not picked to be a college HC somewhere, I do not anticipate him to coach a position in the NFL. That is a step down.

Basketball.. but it’s time to try and lock up our guy cause you know he’ll probably get the 1st call

Taylor isn’t trekking young family to Buffalo & Jets are a train wreck with HC needing a Hail Mary to survive next season. Also might be awkward coaching in NFL with your son on the team.
