Even if this is false, it's hysterical to think about...this offseason is wild, and we haven't even hit the Transfer Portal part yet.

Take with a grain of salt but this would be WILD.

Wow I’ll have to eat crow if this happen

Never thought Venables awould go back to OU as DC after he was the fall guy for Stoops and fired when the defense started to slip. If this happens Kudos to OU and goodbye to Clemson… unless they hire Lane Kiffin.

Likens rep as an OC is not very good.

He’s been an OC twice in his career & in both instances he got fired after one year because he wasn’t a good play caller at all. Both David Beaty at Kansas & Herm Edwards at ASU fired him for the same reason.

He’s a solid WR’s coach, very average to below average OC.

His is indeed, a very good WR coach.

And you brought up a great example about how coaching roles and skills are very different. And they are not necessarily transferrable.

Just because you are a good position coach, does not mean you are a good coordinator. And just because you are a good coordinator, doesn’t mean you are a good head coach. And just because you can do all of those, doesn’t mean you’re a good recruiter. It goes the other direction too.

The examples are too numerous to mention, but just think about the names that are familiar to Miami fans:

Marc Trestman? Great Qb coach. Mediocre coordinator

Dave Wannstedt? Great coordinator, mediocre Head coach

Randy Shannon? Terrible head coach, but really good LB coach

Greg Schiano? Was mediocre as a DB coach, but was a good DC

Don Soldinger? He and Joe Brodsky may have been the best RB coaches in history, but Solly couldn’t recruit a starving man to the buffet line at Sizzler

And it goes on and on …

Can you speculate on the assistant coaches Mario might hire? Other than Field who has a relationship with Mario, odds of any other assistants hanging on?

Took Butch Davis four years to turn things around, so people will need to be patient, unless they find an offensive coordinator with the mind of Lane Kiffin, and they really strike gold in the portal.

Mario to start would likely bring from Oregon: Mirabal for o line, Rod Chance for corner, McClendon for receivers, and Williams for TE/ST.

Oregon special teams do not look that special, punt return for TD before the end of the half in the first Utah game was ugly.
