COACHING/ADMIN UPDATES MEGGGGAAAAAAATHREAD

re: Urban Meyer.

He's definitely learning a lesson Nick Saban learned with the Dolphins...this **** ain't for everybody and winning in the NFL is really f'n hard and you need to be constantly forward thinking and having backup plans to your backup plans.

Look at the difference between he and Matt Rhule right now.

I'm just curious if his nature to quit - like he's shown twice now - trumps his ego, because this man is definitely getting his ego checked and he surely feels embarrassed by the start of his NFL career - from those early articles outlining his college attitude being a dud during camp/pre-season to taking these Ls.

With that said, he's not coming here, but he's an interesting coach to just watch. Despite being such a big time college coach, he has a LOT of learning to do in the NFL.

The nfl is all football , nothing else. Cfb is never ending. Recruiting year round , kissing kids and their families asses , doing pr work , sucking off boosters and having to jump when they say jump. Then you have to navigate the ncaa with cheating and not being sloppy. Lastly anything that happens in the program is your fault. So yeah , the nfl is way more “ cushy”. It’s football 247 with far less politics.
NFL is different compared to college. You spend all day gameplanning and preparing your team, no matter who you play against. A lot of coaches used to sleep in their offices, Joe Gibbs did that for years and years.

College has more other stuff you need to take care of. And while they have recruiting season, in the NFL, you go from football to the draft in no time.

I don’t recall Nick Saban leaving the NFL because it was too easy.
I get your point that the scope appears smaller for an NFL coach, but I suspect this comparison is a giant oversimplification.

He‘s coached one season and some change , I doubt he’s ages that much in a year. Most coaches say the nfl is easier on you because your whole life is coaching ball . College is alot more politics and bs that spreads you thin. It’s the never ending aspect. They’re two different worlds. The pros is hard because you’re coaching against the very best , players and coaches. But once again you’re worrying about football.

You kind of need to strip a lot of external **** that is required of you in college to succeed in the NFL and that can be pretty difficult when its baked into you. If you can - like Pete Carroll did - you can be extremely successful. s

Just my thoughts;

REALISTIC FOR THE U

Tom Herman
Luke Fickell
Malzhan
Matt Campbell
Stoops

REACHING AND EXPENSIVE

Kiffin and Cristobal

DESERVES ANOTHER LOOK

Hugh Freeze
Leach

Crystal Ball-Luke Fickell
Good list. I think Mark Stoops should be “reaching and expensive” though.

Now ... Bob Stoops on the other hand

/ if not Mario, Luke is our only hope

After the draft theres time off.

College is on field , off field and political bs. Once again the nfl is nothing but ootball . That’s why you go into coaching , because you love it. College coaching is only half the gig. My high school coaches slept in the office, because they loved it. I’ve heard too many coaches to count say that college has way too much bs to deal with before you even get to the coaching part. You‘re a politician , a coach , recruiter , and a baby sitter 247. Ask any coach and he’ll tell you he wants to be gameplanning , watching film or prepping. All the other bs is what sucks. The nfl doesn’t have all the bs.

Nobody said its easy , it’s the best in the world at coaching and playing. If you’re a good/great coach you’ll be successful. They love the grind and the competition of facing the best. Once again for the slow “ it’s all football “. That’s what any coach wants. Focus on football with no bs and dealing with unnecessary stuff. This is from coaches mouths. College is non stop bs on top of coaching l.

Not sure about Rhule but Urban Meyer is 473 years old after aging the first part of the season.

He ages in Cane years because I think we all feel that old these days

Remember Fickell was given the keys to the Ohio state Porsche and immediately crashed it. The next year they went undefeated with another coach. Coaching at places like Ohio state and Miami is different than Cincinnati.
I think this is part of the reason why I’m not sold on Fickell. He lost to Golden in his first year. Insane.

With that said, it’s hard to ignore that he’s gone 34-6 over the last 4 years (including 3-0 this year). He also plays in the AAC which quite honestly may be a better conference than the ACC aside from Clemson.

There’s still something about him that I question but can’t deny the success he’s had.

So we blow up the program tomorrow? There won't be a kid in his right mind that comes to Miami to play in our quarter filled stadium instead of packed houses and bags at other places. I do not believe now is the time for a drastic change. We need to rally around our team until at least after the UNC game and then take another look.

Rally around the team now after not filling the stadium on a Thursday night game honoring Schnelly?

When are we going to rally during a bye week?

First you fire AD James and find his replacement. This gives Manny and staff at least the impression they still need to coach/recruit for their job. Replacement AD needs to be in place by Bowl season where we fire Diaz and reach out to our top names. As much as we want to fire Diaz, I’m not sure firing him now is in the long term best interest of Miami. Finding the right AD is priority.
