Coaches upstairs

When people that have played here and coached here at the highest levels comment, I will go with their calls over the everyday fan. When they saw one coach in the booth they could not believe it. Just an observation, I know the CIS insiders know more than our ex greats and members of some of the finest staffs ever at UM. BTW, what technology does UM have that Clemson is missing because they had several coaches upstairs Saturday night.

What coaches did Clemson have in the booth? I don't know their staff besides the coordinators and Brent Venables is probably most well known as the guy who has to have someone hold his belt so he doesn't step on the field every play.

This isnt surprising. Usually want your main coaches down on the field and someone who can name personel and formations fast up top. The DB or LB coach is usually the one up top so they can see how the team is lined up the best. When I coached our DC would go up top cause he was very quick in knowing what they lined up in, Were looking for, checking if we were right. Etc. But that sometimes doesnt work cause we needed him on the sideline to provide motivation.

This. 30 years ago, you wanted both your coordinators in the booth because that's the only way they'd be able to see the field and any aerial shots had to be taken with actual cameras. Now a coach can see the upstairs view of the field live on a tablet. The guys in the booth are position coaches and support staff. Their job is essentially to tell the on-field coaches what personnel groupings the opponent is using and who is subbing into and out of games.

Ed is an advisor NOT a Coach. Yes he will have input, but he will not be hands on as the Coaches are.....that was laid out in his joining the Canes.
didn't say he would be hands on, but Ed played on the greatest college team ever, and spent years playing with the leagues best defenses, and I am sure he will have something to say about the scope of play, which I agreed with others look disjointed. With all Ed brings to the position, I would certainly asked for his input. By the way when Ed was interview earlier, he mentioned he wanted to coach, that is why he took this role.

Probably Aiken, Goodwin , Spiers and a ST guy. You talk about holding back Venables , he was on the OU staff from 99-2003 with Mike Stoops and the 04 staff with Bo Pelini. It was utter madness on the sideline. Moved Mike upstairs to prevent a possible brawl. Insanity.

last year, Field, Stubblefield and Rumph were upstairs. Hickson, the OL coach, Enos, Stroud, Patke and Banda were on the sidelines.

Anyone remember Paterno's last season at Pedo State? He was upstairs the entire time. That's when I knew that he knew the entire time about Sandusky. Only the guilty and/or incompetent hide up in the booth.

I want our ENTIRE staff on the sidelines and Frenk too. Out in the elements and within earshot of the crowd like real men.

you sir are correct and folks that know much about football than anyone here. were a bit surprised by the makeup of the coaches booth and that is why I posted. Technology has changed for everyone but extra eyes up top never hurt. Dabo, Nick, Day, Riley and the rest aren’t talking to their wives or the blimp pilot on those headsets. Maybe those Top coaches could hook up with a few of the experts here For some game adjustments.

and to be complete, Diaz was ALSO on the sideline and NUMEROUS GAs were in the box upstairs.

The person who told me would know. I’m am not being critical, just a different approach. Hope it works out. He thought GAs also as analysts cannot work game days if we are correct. More film analysis and so on.

Brady and Emsinger were both in the box at LSU.

I see benefits being on the field for some coaches/coordinators (Oline for instance) but i see absolute value in having certain coaches in the box for seeing this better and faster.

Don't worry. The whole staff will be outfitted with the best CB radios and can also use morse code in the event that covid infects the radio waves, rendering communication impossible.
