Franklin is a great coach. Penn State was a struggling program before getting exposed as a child rape factory.
It’s amazing how quickly he has turned them into a power. He was good as a Vanderbilt, too.
I've always admired Petersen and thought he would have led Miami to a NC after Shannon and Golden we're fired.
There’s no way James Franklin should be on that list. Willie Taggart is a decent coach. I’ll wait to see what he does with the noles. He’s on this list because he got the fsu job. If he was still at usf or Oregon he wouldn’t be on that list.
Franklin was on the chopping block before Morehead and McSorley rescued him. I need to see what he does over the next couple years. But he rubs people the wrong way, which could account for other coaches hammering him anonymously.
Mullen gets way too much love for doing a Folden type thing at MSU. He turned a program that was down into a good team. But that’s a lot easier than going from good to great, and he constantly failed to do that. Never did anything against top level competition in 8 or 9 years. Big sample. No results.
Shaw is consistently excellent at a place with real actual academic impediments unlike places like Puke and Michigan that trumpet their fake academic prestige while letting anyone who can read at a 3rd grade level in to play football. He’s exceeded Hypebaugh at Stanford. Most overrated coaches imo are Brian Kelly, Kirk Ferentz & Jim Harbaugh.
Most underrated coaches: Gary Patterson, David Shaw & Paul Chryst.
Gary Patteson is one of the top 3-5 coaches in college football imo.
People may not like him but James Franklin is a pretty **** good coach. He actually won 9 games back to back at Vanderbilt, you know how hard that is to do at Vandy? He even beat Richt in 2013, he deserves respect for what he's done thus far.
Also, people sleep on David Shaw because they say Harbaugh created the foundation, but Harbaugh hasn't been at Stanford since 2011 & he was only 29-21 there, so it's not like Shaw is winning with a bunch of Harbaugh recruits. Shaw is 73-22 since becoming HC & has won 3 Pac-12 titles while putting multiple great players in the NFL despite handing out the least amount of offers of any D1 program.
Maybe people forgot, but Stanford wasn't built by Harbaugh, they were a viable program during the Bill Walsh era & came back on the scene during the Tyrone Willingham era, Harbaugh does deserve credit for his 3 years there no doubt, but he gets a little too much credit.
Tagfart is eerily similar to Folden. And FSU fans are currently making all the same excuses we made for Folden for a couple years.This. This is also what FSU fans and some weird Taggert loving fans on here don’t get. It’s easy to improve a bad team with low expectations. It’s hard to be a real winner
Love someone threw Satan in there and added the cheating remark....just goes to show everyone knows he’s cheating but can’t or won’t say anything because they are probably doing it too albeit on a much smaller scale.
How much he’s paid has nothing to do with it.
Overpaid, yes, but no one puts Ferentz in the elite ranks when talking about coaches.
Iowa is an Illinois, Indiana level program when it comes to location and resources, but they’ve been more successful.
Also, love your call on Chryst. He is probably a top 5 HC in college football right now. Consistently excellent while getting mostly scraps in recruiting.
I doubt many coaches could have the same success as Ferentz’s has had at Iowa.
Hayden Fry had them boys rolling ( for Iowa), he had some really good teams. HF defintely had some double figure win seasons. That squad with Tim Dwight and the rb Banks was really good. I know he had a 10-1 record in the 80’s.
Iowa isn’t a horrible job , Ferentz has been average imo.
Ferentz has a sweet gig. Top money, low expectations, and no concern about job security.
Throw in the fact that his buy-out is north of 20mil, yes 20.
Most overrated coaches imo are Brian Kelly, Kirk Ferentz & Jim Harbaugh.
