I've personally thought the same about Fake Energy Black Al Golden at Penn State for years.

Candid Coaches: Who are the most overrated and underrated college football coaches?

Interesting read. I thought the coaches crapping all over Taggart was hilarious.

I’d give Franklin a little credit. He’s not elite, but he’s beaten Meyer, Harbaugh, D’Antionio, and Petersen. Golden would have never come close.

Agree with Shaw. I don’t know if he can win NC at Stanford but he is an excellent coach. Harbaugh did set him up and we’ll need to see if Shaw can keep Stanford an annual PAC12 contender. I suspect he will.

You can't be "over rated" if you're winning. I don't like James Franklin but 11 wins 2 years in a row can't be ignored.

Willie is overrated af, Frentz is inconsistent, although Kiffin has proven to be a consistently effective offensive mind, as a headcoach he's inconsistent.

Ferentz is definitely overrated. Has been one of the highest paid coaches for years and typically does nothing.

I'll revisit my argument about Franklin post this season and subsequent future seasons without Barkley but I do love Ferentz being on here too. That dude has been paid like an elite coach for yearrrrrs but is magically only held to a second-tier standard.

Franklin shouldn’t be there. He’s not the greatest coach but he wins. Taggart absolutely is in the correct list

LOL @ Kirk Ferentz being considered overrated. David Shaw runs that ancient offense but it is **** hard to compete when you can only give offer out 30-35 scholarships

As I said, I'll gladly revisit Franklin after this season but I'll go on record now saying that Penn State loses at least 4 games this year. He's not keeping company at the top of this list with a guy like Tagfart that has a joke of a resume just because other coaches are "jealous".

Semenhole fans will be done with Taggart in 12 to 18 months.

Look forward to seeing 3rd-choice Mullen go from underrated to overrated in the same span.

FSU and UF morons about to be reminded (again) their programs aren't as invincible as they think.

I don't know how anyone can say that Franklin is overrated.

He's probably a top 10 coach right now.

Co-sign with DMoney and Canething.

Don't give a crap about Penn State or Vanderbilt.

But James Franklin absolutely is one of the best coaches in College Football.

And he's only 46.

Most overrated coaches imo are Brian Kelly, Kirk Ferentz & Jim Harbaugh.

Most underrated coaches: Gary Patterson, David Shaw & Paul Chryst.

Gary Patteson is one of the top 3-5 coaches in college football imo.

People may not like him but James Franklin is a pretty **** good coach. He actually won 9 games back to back at Vanderbilt, you know how hard that is to do at Vandy? He even beat Richt in 2013, he deserves respect for what he's done thus far.

Also, people sleep on David Shaw because they say Harbaugh created the foundation, but Harbaugh hasn't been at Stanford since 2011 & he was only 29-21 there, so it's not like Shaw is winning with a bunch of Harbaugh recruits. Shaw is 73-22 since becoming HC & has won 3 Pac-12 titles while putting multiple great players in the NFL despite handing out the least amount of offers of any D1 program.

Maybe people forgot, but Stanford wasn't built by Harbaugh, they were a viable program during the Bill Walsh era & came back on the scene during the Tyrone Willingham era, Harbaugh does deserve credit for his 3 years there no doubt, but he gets a little too much credit.

Only 5 double-digit win seasons in 19 years and a losing bowl record. I'm thinking A LOT of coaches could've done that when you consider he's always been paid at an elite level.
How much he’s paid has nothing to do with it.

Overpaid, yes, but no one puts Ferentz in the elite ranks when talking about coaches.

Iowa is an Illinois, Indiana level program when it comes to location and resources, but they’ve been more successful.
