From Matt Porter @mattyports:

- Asked Golden how he can be better in Year 4. Said he'll be more hands-on, delegate his time better.

- Al on the QB race: "It is wide-open."

- Golden says Canes adding Heaps doesn't reflect on the current QBs, and it's just him wanting to add experience. He's very good politically.

- Asked if the gap between FSU/the rest of the ACC is as big as it was in the 90s, Golden said a flat "no." Talent everywhere, he said.

- Al talking about overuse of players and specalization of athletes at a young age. Says it's important to let them have fun w/ football.

- Al Golden: "The defense was better on any day this spring as it was any day last year."

- Golden on Petrino: "Bobby's got a great offensive mind." Says "controlling variables" will be hard since they won't know UofL's personnel.

- Al said this team needs to "turn this season into 12 one-game missions," then adds "we haven't done that yet."

- Al Golden on how Canes can win Coastal: Got to settle QB situation quickly, get 8-10 OLs, get a punter, and DL needs to close every gap.

From Christy Chirinos (@ChristyChirinos)

- Golden on Ryan Williams:"Knock on wood, he's had no setbacks, he's been dogged in his regimen & he's a hard worker; doing everything right."

- More AG on Ryan Williams: "He's doing everything right. What that means right now, we don't know. We'll find out here in the next month."

- AG on transfer Jake Heaps: "He started 30 games in college, obviously, his mind for the game is excellent."

- Golden also said Kevin Olsen has had a good summer, he's gained weight and gotten stronger.

- AG on Kaaya & Rosier: "I'm really pleased with the 2 freshmen; Both are smart, both work really hard, being in both summer sessions helped."

- Golden says Heaps, on campus a little more than a month, is doing well learning playbook. "Conceptually, he knows what the reads are..."

- More AG on Heaps: "He knows what we're doing; he doesn't have to do anything but be himself...manage the game, distribute the football."

- Golden also said on QBs: "Olsen is battling his tail off and Kaaya has shown a lot of maturity here in the early going."

- More Al Golden on the QBs: "We feel really good going into the season. James [Coley] has done a great job working with those guys."

- In terms of newcomers that have impressed, Golden highlighted Tyre Brady, Joe Yearby, David Njoku, Kaaya, Rosier, Wyche, Moten and Thomas.

- In terms of players making the biggest changes to their bodies, Golden said WR Malcolm Lewis is in great shape. "

- AG on Lewis: "He was playing around 201, he's 189 right now and as fast as he's ever been; faster than he was as a freshman...lean."

- More news in terms of off-season workouts: Golden said Chad Thomas arrived on campus around 248, in the 260s now.

- Golden was high on Dallas Crawford all spring, still is today. "Lean body mass, lighter than he ever has been, ran better than he ever has."

- "Our platform has changed, from constantly being on our heels and defending ourselves to now, we’re back on the attack," he said.

- Golden also said he felt bad players had to deal w/so many question from family, friends back home about it all. "They're having fun now."

- Canes will face 10 opponents that advanced to postseason last year. Golden's thoughts: "We don't play them all at once."

- Golden on opening with L'ville after the RAB loss: "It was a learning experience...but there hasn't been a lot of looking back."

- More AG: "It was almost like, 'Let’s turn the page and let’s go.' From that standpoint, it’s been a great group to work with.”

- Golden said he's been a lot more hands-on in coaching this spring. "I enjoyed it, I enjoyed being around the players a lot more."

- Golden: "We're not talking about Coastal Championships. We're talking about taking care of business today."

- AG asked about the numbers on defense last year. Was given an out about injuries, says "There's no excuses. We have to do a better job."

- Golden said he feels UNC's pain right now regarding Tar Heels NCAA issues. "I wouldn't wish that on anybody."

- Golden, simply: "That August 14, 2011 was a unique day."

I hope you mofos remember Golden said the defense has been better any day this spring than any day last year. Not believing it until I see actual proof of this

- Golden onUM v. FSU: "For us at the U of Miami, for us to get back to where we want to be, we’ve got to win that game."

This was the most important quote for me. Usually he would run form this question but he actually said what i wanted. i like this new golden.

Asked Golden how he can be better in Year 4. Said he'll be more hands-on, delegate his time better.

I told everyone in the other thread he was going to be more hands on with the defense and everything from now on. he knows his seat is warm and he doesnt want D'NO to cause him his job.

That is easy to believe. If they made a tackle at the line of scrimmage, they were better than any day last year. Better than last year is not a hurdle. GOOD is a hurdle.

I am excited about our players, especially our new defensive players. But I am still scared to death about our coaching. If we could just see the D attack and penetrate the backfield, I could live with giving up yardage. It is the first contact being 8 yards down field that just rips my guts out. I Al could plan defense anything like old Miami D, most of the coaches in the ACC would be looking for work in two years--even Dumbo. Please let the big dogs hunt and feed on game.

Im waiting to see what better looks like. Not believing a word of it. I feel Golden is a salesman who could run for political office. Probably writing down excuses already

This was the most important quote for me. .

+ a billion.

Nothing else matters than W's. QB play, DL play, getting carries for Duke, recruiting S FL or NJ or wherever, etc. All that is nothing if we don't win. And ain't nothing like beating your rival. Sooner or later, we gotta gotta gotta gotta beat fsu.

Golden is supposed to be a defensive guy. How could he sit back for three years while his defense got sexually abused before he decided to do something about it?

When the product ACTUALLY improves, we can believe it.
