Coach J.D. Arteaga joined the CanesInSight Podcast to discuss the latest with Canes Baseball coming off an up-and-down week. A transcript of the discussion is below:

DMoney: Coach, great win yesterday, 9–5 on the road against UCF. This has been a tough program for you guys for a long time, tough program for a lot of teams. What did you see last night in the win?

That was not a hostile environment at all. Most people left including us before the end of the game that seemed like it was never going to end with all the pitching changes. Its no Mark Light but the berm along the outfield is always a good time.

Yeah pretty concerning interview from my stance:

Perralta is only change we will see in future?

We have been playing great defense? We’re a great defensive team?

I mean what the **** is this dude watching

To be fair, I’ve been guilty of this while coaching higher level baseball too. You see your guys practice every day and do great things so you think it’ll eventually translate. Sometimes it doesn’t, and you can’t be scared to go to the next guy up.

This is why I was such a proponent of finding someone from outside of the Miami circle. Someone who has seen what great baseball looks like recently. JD only knows Miami and while we were good when he was here pitching, tha was 100 years ago. Way different game now.

IF WE MAKE A CHANGE, Who would you like to see come here?

I like the Urso idea from UTampa. I also like the coach from Chipola Jeff Johnson. Neither are young, but both know how to win and know what talent looks like. But there are other candidates out there that I don’t know anything about. It needs to be a guy who has FL connections, has won at high levels, and who has a good track record developing and recruiting arms…
