...he lost this chess match. He had the players to stop that O and that stiff RB who will maybe make it as a UFA if he's lucky, gashed us again and again when they needed it and we needed to stop them.

I hope that Heatherman gives us one more season and further teaches, molds and shapes this D. The IU D has some players, but they were effective largely because most of them had spent a few years with their DC and were really disciplined and well studied.

I believe Heatherman will further improve our overall D and I don't know how much we'll drop off from this years. Next year is when he'll make his money and new HC gig.

But, he did get out coached tonight. Hopefully, he'll use that burning sensation as motivation and get us back to another title game and this time, take home the trophy.

This is a brutal take

4.6 yards per play vs. and 20 points allowed to a top 3-4 offense.

No we aren't a great tackling team, and hopefully that improves next year, but our defense was excellent tonight. I'm not sure you can be more wrong.

I think we had to mitigate the loss of Lucas in first half initially but OJ ended up managing more snaps than he thought. Second half was elite minus the now standard, self inflicted wounds that we JUST COULDNT STOP

Watching that game and critiquing the defense when they only gave up 20 points…you’d think we’re better than this but this is CIS

I think it’s situational. We all knew their tendencies and we played into them with 3rd/4th downs and they prepared for ours. I think situational chess matches we needed were lost near the end but overall we were great on D considering the offense.

Some plays they just ******* made too it happens

He’s one of the last people who should be called out tonight.

My God.

Thank this man for taking over a defense that cost us an opportunity to get to the CFP, and making them into a defense that propelled us into the National Championship Game.

You’re going against one of the best offenses in college football, that literally does not turn the ball over. Overall, the defense held their own tonight and gave the offense a chance to win the game.

What are we doing here?

He wasn’t perfect but he was good enough to win, players needed to execute better when it mattered most

Bain doesn’t jump offside and Hetherman managed the Lucas suspension by only giving up three points in the first half. It’s hard to find a reason to blame him.

Hetherman basically won the chest match…Yes we got away with a little PI, but it was called the same the other way.

He won the chess match and got stale-mated by awesome individual effort/talent of Mendoza/Becker and an all around excellent IU OL/running game that we defended as well or better than anyone all year.

The defense is the reason we had a chance in the game and the reason we made it it through in the first place. Good lord

Held IU to 20 points led by the heisman trophy winner

An offense that was steam rolling teams and was on a tear in the playoffs yet kept them in check, two incredible catches by that Becker kid and a ****** PI call on OJ is what kept that IU offense going.

Heatherman needs to be paid whatever it is dude is the best OC/DC we’ve had here in a VERY long time

Horrible post. We held pretty much every team to less yards and points than their average this year.

This isn't a video game. We can't hold a great offense to zero points and no first downs all game. It's reasonable for them to score so e points and make some plays. But overall we held them in check. I give the defense an A tonight.
