ACC offer the latest for '16 DT Jabari Ellis
IKerry Fair II

One look at his film and we knew Lake Marion junior defensive tackle had the goods to be a major player in the 2016 recruiting class. A month later the 6'5 286 pound prospect has picked up a pair of offers and should be hearing from plenty more in the coming weeks. He landed an ACC offer on Tuesday and talked about it with us and more.

Things have picked up as of late for 2016 Lake Marion defensive tackle Jabari Ellis since our first story with him a month ago. Schools have been showing interest and during that time he's picked up his first two scholarship offers. His latest came on Tuesday evening and he shared the news with us first.

"The University of Miami just offered me!" Ellis messaged us.

"It feels great man! South Carolina State offered me last week but the feeling of this one is great too. I was actually thinking about taking a visit to Miami this weekend but I don't know yet."

"Miami said that I'm everything that they are looking for in a player, a true Hurricane. He asked how many offers that I already have and I said one from South Carolina State. He said are you sure. He said now you have two congratulations!"

The Hurricanes are his second offer but Ellis was on campus with an SEC school over the weekend and he talked about his time there.

"I was at Georgia this weekend. They showed strong interest in me. I really liked the environment, the coaching staff, and just the whole atmosphere."

So what did the Bulldogs coaches say to Ellis?

"They loved my film! They said that I have nice size and good speed for my size too. They said that I'm a game changer."

During our initial interview with Ellis he said that he felt NC State and South Carolina could be the first ones to offer him. Have those programs remained in the mix for the 6'5 286 pound prospect during the past month with him grabbing his first two offers from other programs?

"Yes sir. NC State is coming to my school next week and South Carolina said they are coming to our spring practice."
Ellis says other schools that have been in contact in the past month are Eastern Michigan and Georgia Southern.

We'll continue to track Ellis' recruitment as we anticipate other schools to start keying on him moving forward. So keep it right here for more updates with Ellis!

Ellis receiving heavy Gopher interest
Ryan Burns

Most of the Minnesota's staff was at the Sound Body Sound Mind camp in Michigan last week and one defensive lineman that really caught the staff's eye was South Carolina's Jabari Ellis. Ellis spoke with GopherDigest about his recruiting and how interested in Minnesota he truly is.

"I currently have offers from Miami (Fla.), Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Charlotte, Toledo, North Carolina Central, South Carolina State and Western Carolina," Ellis told GopherDigest. "I'm also receiving a lot of interest from Minnesota and Penn State recently as they both saw me last week at Sound Body in Michigan. I'll be camping at one of Penn State's satellite camps in Charlotte soon and I'll be at the Miami camp this weekend. No more visits planned right now other than that."

The South Carolina defensive tackle spoke with Minnesota as recently as last night.

"I spoke with the defensive line coach, Jeff Phelps last night on the phone," Ellis said. "He was getting information from me and asked for my coaches information as well. We were just getting to know one another and he was asking about me basically. We also talked about the Gopher program and what they're about. He said an offer is coming real soon, so there were some important things he said and they're definitely a school I would consider. I think they like me so much as I think one of the best parts of my game is my ability to stand up blockers and drive them into the backfield to then make a play on the ball. I talked with them at the Sound Body Sound Mind camp last week and they liked how I moved for a 285 pound guy, so we'll see what happens with them."

Minnesota isn't the only Big Ten school in the mix now.

"Penn State is another school that's been on me a lot since the camp," Ellis told GopherDigest. "After the one on ones there, three Penn State coaches came over and told me that they'll be recruiting me hard. They actually watched me film on the spot while I was there and that's why I'm going to their camp this week."

Ellis is undecided about when he potentially make his commitment.

"I haven't decided yet when I'll make a decision as it'll be either before the season starts or on signing day. I would appreciate an offer from Minnesota as it'd be a school that I'd definitely consider."

Warhawks' Walton rules weight room

When Brandon Walton walks into a room, eyes immediately stare up at him, wide with awe.

When the Seminole offensive lineman steps onto the field, heads continue to turn, especially those of college recruiters.

Walton, a rising senior, is 6 feet 5, 285 pounds. It is not just his size that makes him stand out, but his strength. He can bench press 330 pounds, squat 440 and dead lift 470.

Because of that combination, Walton should become Seminole's first Division I football signee in 13 years.

"It's been a while since colleges have been around here," coach Chris Miller said. "Brandon's big, and it's all muscle. He's just a monster in the weight room. On the field, he's a mauler who is only going to get better."

Walton has nine offers, including four in the past two days. The biggest came from Kentucky, his first from an SEC school.

"I never really expected this," said Walton, who also plays basketball. "My coach during my sophomore year said I was going to do big things, but I never really bought into it until last year when some college started showing interest in me. That got me going, and I started working even harder."

The list of offers will continue to grow as Walton does the heavy lifting for a line that is battling through some injuries this spring. Jordan Halfinds and Cameron Barauskis return, but Miller said he will have to go with younger players to fill the rest of the spots on the line.

It also means Walton has to switch from left tackle to guard for the spring game against Dunedin.

"I get to go out and pull now so that's fun," Walton said. "Everybody is trying to learn new positions so it will benefit everyone."

It's been confirmed that Joseph Jackson has been invited to the Army game. He just didn't announce it publicly. Cedrick mentioned it on Caneshades.

Zach McCloud will be wearing #2 this year.

Hey Geo, appreciate the updates! Not sure if invited means committed. It sounded like he and Ced are undecided on which game they will be playing in. Usually the Army Game will make an announcement from their side like they did for Bryd once the player has been invited and officially committed to play in the game. I will update once it goes public. Hopefully Zach gets that invite now that he is officailly in the top 300 for ESPN. Shaq needs an invite now!

Defensive lineman Keyshon Camp commits to USC
By LINDSEY THIRY USC Trojans

Two weeks ago, USC didn't have a defensive lineman committed in its 2016 recruiting class.

Now the Trojans have three.

Keyshon Camp, from Lake Gibson Senior High in Lakeland, Fla., announced his decision Saturday.

“I’m announcing that I’m officially committing to USC #FightOn #Trojans ,” Camp wrote on Twitter, with a photo of himself with Coach Steve Sarkisian.

Camp, 6 feet 4 and 270 pounds, was in Los Angeles this week to participate in USC’s Rising Stars camp.

Camp was once committed to Miami.

La Mirada’s Keanu Saleapaga and Huntington Beach’s Liam Jimmons were offered and committed after USC’s offensive and defensive line camp earlier this month.

USC is expected to sign as many as four linemen in the class.

Crazy thing is that we are in the running for a lot of those kids, you can tell Golden and Co put a heavy emphasis on the state of Florida. trying to use the old Schnelly method to win back the state.

The problem is the top guys are still going to FSU or out of State.

If signing day was today:
FSU: 7
UM: 6
LSU: 3
UF: 2
OSU: 1
Clemson: 1

If we just took the top 10:
FSU: 4
UM: 2
LSU: 2
OSU: 1
Clemson: 1

Miami has 0 in the top 5, FSU has 3. FSU is getting most of the guys they want in Florida. They also get betters guys from out of state for certain positions:

#1 CB: Taylor (VA)
#3 QB: Henry (CA)
#1 OLB (JC): Horton (FL)
#1 K Tyler (MO)

So FSU set for a big haul with Craig-Myers, Manuel and Mullen. If we don't get Bethel and or Victor or Pie then Golden needs to be fired for another reason of a 1000!

I mean FSU is always going to get top guys in the state. they always have and now we are starting to get top guys as well instead of looking in Jersey and hoping we pull somebody. we got our butts kicked last cycle. think it helped us get back to our roots.

Yeap, they always won the recruiting championships and we used to win the National Championships. We have to get back to getting the hungrier players with a chip on their shoulder who will out work their opponents. I believe our staff has done a good job in terms of developing the players once they get here, they just have to put it all together as team and start winning the close games.

Beating FSU this year will go a long way in coming back. last couple of years our team really got deflated after losing to FSU. We were 6-2 before FSU and 0-4 after FSU in 2014, 7-0 before FSU and 2-4 after in 2013. Yeap, that's 13-2 before and 2-8 after over the past 2 years.

Last year and the year would have been different out comes if we actually beat FSU, probably wouldve had better recruiting classes too

The DT market is starting to dry up and I don't think we're in a good position with any elite or even good prospects smh

Tight end/wide receiver Michael Irvin Jr. (Fort Lauderdale, St. Thomas Aquinas) verbally committed to Miami.

"It's what I've always wanted to do," Irvin, Jr. said. "I like the coaches. They told me I would play all over for them. In the backfield, at tight end and at receiver."

His father, Michael Irvin, is one of the all-time great Miami Hurricanes and an NFL Hall of Famer.

"He was proud of me when I told him of my decision and he thinks it will work out for me just like it did for him going there," Irvin, Jr. said.

Irvin has over a dozen offers and said Syracuse finished second.

"I chose Miami because of the tradition and its a great program," Irvin, Jr. said.

The three-star recruit is ranked as the nation's No. 27 tight end and the No. 85 prospect in Florida in the 2016 class by 247Sports.com Composite Rankings.

Monday afternoon, the Swag16 recruiting class got bigger, with yet another commitment. And, like all but 1 of the 21 commits that this player will join, it's another South Florida kid.

The newest recruit is Michael Irvin Jr., son of Hurricane legend and NFL Hall of Fame WR Michael Irvin. The younger Irvin, who moved from Texas to Ft. Lauderdale this summer and transferred to his father's Alma Mater St. Thomas Aquinas, is a player who can flex between WR and TE.

Irvin joins teammate Sam Bruce in being committed to Miami. He chose The Hurricanes over more Syracuse and a host of other offers. Irvin is the 6th receiver in this class, joining Bruce, Dionte Mullins, Ahmmon Richards, Evan Hinson (TE), and Reginald Henderson in this group.

You think Bruce finally gets that 5th star?

yeah if he decommits lol

I don't think so. If anything, maybe rivals since the top 25 get 5 stars and he is currently ranked 36. He would have to jump a lot of spots to get his 5th star on the other rankings. I have no idea how these rankings are made especially at the top when players play different positions. Hard to compare and rank a DT over QB when they are not really comparable.
Well they say they rank players on who they think has the most potential to make it to the NFL. I believe Tom lingbul from ESPN said that when i watching Recruiting Nation. Obviously we know that's it doesnt happen the way they predict. Its tough to rank players. There are so many hidden gems. Kevin White of WVU was a 3 star recruit that went JUCO. He went #8 overall to the Bears. So too me you have to watch film yourself to judge.
