Class Impact: Elijah Roberts to Miami

Isnt much of a knock as Pat Bethel is a good solid player. Roberts upside though is higher than Pat thats all.

I see folks saying Trent Harris type as well...He is/was bigger as a soph in high school than Trent Harris has ever been. Trent was a tweener in that he could play backer...Elijah is a 3tech or stronside end
Big facts. When I say tweener in reference to this cat it’s his ability to play strong side or 3 tech

No.
1. Bama never offered him.
2. There aren't enough "bags" that could be offered to jeopardize what my son has worked so hard for.

If you are his father I apologize for any perceived insult. I don’t live in South Florida so I don’t know the landscape down there. Never was I suggesting that was actually true. I only brought it up because after the decommit I am recalling, a well known poster on this board started a thread with an idea on how to get Miami into the bag game. It was a very popular thread. Anyway, glad he came back and we look forward to him balling out for this U.

It’s sad that everyone is bent out of shape about an out of state kid staying home when he has plenty reason to, just like Roberts, yet there’s a combined 70+ pages on Lawrence.

This young man and his family went about everything the right way in every way shape and form and there isn’t even 10 pages. Many reputable people have stated that they think Elijah is the top all around defensive lineman in South FL this cycle. This is the thread that should have 70 pages. If Elijah went out of state y’all would be losing your **** and HoW CoUlD The CoAcHeS LeT HiM SliP aWaY.

If you’re a junkie for the misery of recruiting but don’t revel in the fun of it when we win a good one then why the **** do you follow recruiting at all. Good Lord.

Roberts handled his recruitment with all the class and thought process of someone who’s much older than himself. When he wanted to do more research he decommitted but his word is that, his word. Now with him back in the fold it seems he’s thought this through greatly, did the legwork he wanted to do, and will remain in the 2020 class for Miami. If only more players dealt with this decision process more like Elijah did, the recruiting landscape would be a much better place.

I'm his mom🤗no worries but thank you for the apology.

Thank you!!
Imagine being 16 and the school you have been watching for years asks you to play for them AND you get to go to college for free!! People need to realize that these are 16-18 yr old kids that are making one of the biggest decisions of their lives. Yes it was exciting but he had to stop and think "I know UM says I'm a fit for them but I gotta see if they're a fit for me" which brought on the decommitting and let me add that it was not easy. Granted this should've been thought of before the commitment but again the initial excitement was overwhelming. This process is not an easy one and it was new to us all so we all learned through this. Nevertheless, it's over, he's excited and ready!

I love that we got Roberts. He almost definitely can start out at end and likely easily move inside on passing downs early on. I doubt he redshirts but who knows. I think in a year or two he will look like the prototype defensive tackle Manny seems to like - 280 to 320 6’0 to 6’5. Long term he likely doesn’t fit the mold for what I think this team prefers at defensive end (long arms, lean, quick, explosive, tall).

I know the numbers will never work but I would love for the staff to get Westley Neal or let him commit whichever it is. At that point they can just try to hang onto what they have and focus purely on the pipe dream that is Donell Harris until signing day. This team is crushing it at stocking the defensive line. They could be 3 deep across the line in as little as a year from now.

Looks like Roberts commitment took Westley Neal's spot as 3rd DT/DE for the 2020 class. So unless one of the other two 2020 DT'S drops out Neal's ship may have sailed without him unfortunately. There is always the possibility of some roster management movement in the future.

Go Canes

Thanks Mama Roberts for all your insight. And much respect from a dad trying to raise teenagers himself. Sounds like you guys are doing a great job.

Thank you and don't get discouraged. We'll never know everything when it comes to raising them. Just pray that you're always making the best decision for them and setting a good example for them to follow. #yougotthis

Yea, he has a higher upside than Bethel IMO. He looks like Solomon Thomas from Stanford. Can play some SDE but in Manny's system he's a 3-tech.

I can only imagine what you both went through regarding the recruiting process. It’s bad enough with dealing with fan bases lol. Congratulations to Elijah for finding his fit and I’m stoked that fit is Miami! I look brilliantly forward to seeing him in orange & green taking down QB’s. Congrats as well to you for a fine job raising him!
