Class Impact: Brian Balom to Miami

Perhaps he has football speed? Maybe? I’ll admit... he’s 1 of the 4 commits that I was never wowed by. But he’s a cane. Maybe he’ll be serviceable down the line.

I don't think anyone is mistaking Balom for a future starter...and maybe he's a future attrition candidate, but let him play. You need depth guys, too. Too often we don't get these types to stick around and it kills depth when you get to - what would be - his third, fourth, fifth year. Miami essentially plays three safeties every down, so its not like depth isn't needed here regularly.

11.84 would be solid up here in Vermont! lol But that is not a time I would consider fast, or even close to it. Its not like he is going to shave a full second off that. I am going with dude is slow, hope he puts on good weight, hes a striker or the smallest LB you've seen in a bit...lol
pr is 11.36 something was wrong during that event probably

Only me and @gogeta4 🤷‍♂️

I can see it...but we've got so depth here...I can't see it in the first few years. Too much athletic talent ahead of him.

I like Balom...but there is a lot ahead of him.

Couple years sure assuming Hall and Bolden don't leave after this season (feels stupid to type that but this is Miami after all). Few is an overstatement. There is nothing standing between him and the starting FS job in 2022. Smith and Williams are SS candidates imo.

A laser timed 4.6 from a 17 year old isn’t slow at all, especially given the fact that we’re seeing most kids actually get faster during their time in college.

Except two more classes of players.

I'm just saying, if he's only a backup and develops into a role player, thats cool, too.

He's instinctive, moves efficiently and takes sound angles. He has a high floor and the staff values DBs they can trust to play their assignment. If a young kid is gonna beat him out when he's an upperclassman they're gonna have to bring all that to the table and be more explosive. I'd be thrilled if Miami signed a kid like that but it's not a given.

His comp to me is Anthony Reddick.

He can play. Has knowledge of that safety spot. Has adequate size, isnt afraid to pop...and has been goign against div 1 wrs daily since hes been in high school.

Balom will be a 2 year starter her ebarring injuries.

If he turns out anything close to Amp, I would be very happy.

Speaking of 100 meters Don Chaney ran 10.77 last year faster than Christian Leary 10.80. I know he was older. Still impressive as Chaney is bigger.

speaking of track..one of the Flemings from MNW ran a 10.3 or something like that this weekend

Where did he run this 4.6 laser time at?

i doubt he ran anywhere near that & his PR is 11.36 in the 100.

Just watched his film...JAG..transfer portal in a few years imo.
I have to admit that I agree. Though I hope he contributes on special teams, maybe sees some time as a reserve, gets a quality education and has a productive life. No reasons to transfer, just use the school as the school plans to use you.
And he better not get into any trouble.
And most important, he better have good grades and not smoke weed so he can pass the "random" drug tests. You know, the drug tests given "randomly" to the kids on the team who don't smoke weed.
