TE at Texas we recruited must retake ACT and could miss 2015 season - Team Stream

The class of 2015's top tight end has received some bad news from the NCAA regarding his eligibility.

Texas' four-star signee Devonaire Clarington was told by the NCAA that he will need to take the ACT, he told ESPN's Max Olson on Wednesday.

"I have no idea when I will retake it and I don't know when I will be eligible," Clarington told Scout.com's Taylor Gaspar.

"I'm still going (to Texas). I don't know how soon it will be, but I will be okay."

After signing with the Longhorns in January, Clarington drew the attention of the NCAA due to his standardized test score of 26, which was flagged for being higher than his grades would suggest.

Head coach Charlie Strong told the media on Tuesday that he expected the NCAA to rule on Clarington sooner than later.

"That could be any day," said Strong. "With the university, everything is good. It's the NCAA. We're waiting on it to come from them."

Though, Clarington's status with Texas is now in jeopardy. According to the ACT website, Clarington will not be able to rewrite the test until Sept. 12. But, according to 247Sports, the last day for a Texas student to add or drop a class for the fall semester is Sept. 11.

Ranked as the No. 21 2015 recruit in Florida, Clarington was considered a huge get for the Longhorns as part of five Florida standouts. With the three others no longer with the program, the only one left is freshman cornerback Davante Davis.

I bet the guy that replaces the clown UiF just hired in a couple years takes a good hard look at bringing Charlie Strong in a DC. He's got 2 seasons max left in Austin.
