100%You sure about that?

We would still have gone after Beck. There was way too much at stake to justify giving the keys to Bailey. Bailey would have likely redshirted during the 2024FIFY.
Bailey was the right call. But maybe we wouldn’t have gone after Beck and Mensah then so taking Judd was the best outcome.
I never wanted him and you saw during our game against NC State last year exactly why I never wanted that kid. I never understood the overhyping of him because that’s all it was, pure overhyping. Dmoney is big time to blame on that overhyping. Can't believe you all wanted this guy.
The staff clearly didn't love Bailey. If they did, the transfer portal QB process would have lasted two seconds, and he would have been a Cane early in DecemberI never wanted him and you saw during our game against NC State last year exactly why I never wanted that kid. Nooooooo DMoney overhyping someone? Not in this decade.I never wanted him and you saw during our game against NC State last year exactly why I never wanted that kid. I never understood the overhyping of him because that’s all it was, pure overhyping. Dmoney is big time to blame on that overhyping.
I think we took Judd and others knowing they will never play, those in hindsight are depth moves since no other big schools were promising starting jobs or future starting jobs. CJ probably had the I am a starter trait and we were not looking for that so we slow played them. We were always going portal for star QBs that can take us far that had real college film, and to me that is the right way to go. The QBs we have on the roster will probably never play here ever, unless they force them to through practice. To me I trust what the coaches see in practice especially at the QB position.FIFY.

All things equal and in a vacuum... yeah, CJ Bailey.I think we took Judd and others knowing they will never play, those in hindsight are depth moves since no other big schools were promising starting jobs or future starting jobs. Looks like we dodged another bullet missing on Cj Madoff
It was never him OR judd. We were after big names and he was attempting to price himself in with them. Judd got pennies and had zero demands.I feel like people wanted him over Judd because he’s a local and he’s connected to JJ Smith as his hs qb. It always comes back to JJ here.![]()
And he wouldn't have come here if we told him we were gonna red shirt him even if we gave into his money demands. We would still have gone after Beck. There was way too much at stake to justify giving the keys to Bailey. Bailey would have likely redshirted during the 2024
Judd won't even be here next year... Never even talked about playing meaningful snaps. He's going to be waiting awhile considering he's 3rd string this year.
Ok. So maybe if all things are even we take Bailey over Judd as a development type but Bailey thought he was worth real qb money at the time. Makes sense in that context. It was never him OR judd. We were after big names and he was attempting to price himself in with them. Judd got pennies and had zero demands.
There is a good chance that happened. Even if he didn’t end up redshirting, it wasn’t like he was going to get very many snaps in 2024 anyways. If he was hypothetically on the team, this board would have burned down if we gave him the keys for 2025. With all that was at stake, we had to go the portal routeAnd he wouldn't have come here if we told him we were gonna red shirt him even if we gave into his money demands. We would still have gone after Beck. The dolphins have already decided he'll be the next unproven basic quarterback they throw a hundred million at.Perfect for dolphins
We never took him serious for several reasons. #1 He wanted starter money. #2 He wanted a commitment of playing time or the ability to play as a freshman.Pre-Mensah/Still-dreaming-of-Jeremiah? Yes.
What were our choices? Sorsby?
I recall you telling me about Raiola and Sayin. Amazingly, we ended up better off the way we went in the portal. We never took him serious for several reasons. #1 He wanted starter money. #2 He wanted a commitment of playing time or the ability to play as a freshman.
#3 initially we were flipping Raiola & we backed out of that due to some character concerns. Than we moved on to Sayin who was a silent for the last month of the season. Where in that world should you prioritize an overrated Cj Bailey & his demands?

I am actually good going the portal route each year. I get that it’s a gamble but if you are regularly one of the very top qb destinations and nil spenders, as we’ve become, o think it’s best to go the proven commodity route. It is a fact we ended up better off. It is also true we rolled the dice and hit big 3 out of 3 times. I think there was a fair amount of luck in how we ended up with Ward, Beck and Mensah. I just don't think you can rely on that as a winning strategy over time. I'm happy we're landing more talented HS QBs now.
