Cj Bailey Running Scams?

FIFY.

Bailey was the right call. But maybe we wouldn’t have gone after Beck and Mensah then so taking Judd was the best outcome.
We would still have gone after Beck. There was way too much at stake to justify giving the keys to Bailey. Bailey would have likely redshirted during the 2024

I never wanted him and you saw during our game against NC State last year exactly why I never wanted that kid. I never understood the overhyping of him because that’s all it was, pure overhyping. Dmoney is big time to blame on that overhyping.
The staff clearly didn't love Bailey. If they did, the transfer portal QB process would have lasted two seconds, and he would have been a Cane early in December

Nooooooo DMoney overhyping someone? Not in this decade.

I think we took Judd and others knowing they will never play, those in hindsight are depth moves since no other big schools were promising starting jobs or future starting jobs. CJ probably had the I am a starter trait and we were not looking for that so we slow played them. We were always going portal for star QBs that can take us far that had real college film, and to me that is the right way to go. The QBs we have on the roster will probably never play here ever, unless they force them to through practice. To me I trust what the coaches see in practice especially at the QB position.

All things equal and in a vacuum... yeah, CJ Bailey.

But in the end we played it correctly, Judd was a smaller hit on the NIL pool and was willing to stay in the system as a backup and learn without transferring for playing time. This while we rolled out Cam Ward, Carson Beck and Darian Mensah as our QB1s.

Nobody can really argue the results. And as a bonus, Judd looks like he is improving and could actually become a decent player. Cant have just 1 qb on the team no matter how good that QB1 is.

This is one of those internet scams once an account gets hacked.. they use AI to make it look like the account owner is on “camera” promoting the scam.

I definitely wanted Bailey but if the choice was Mensah or Bailey.. the choice is Mensah all day. But I was impressed when he tried to lay into Jakobe Thomas on that TD run after the interception.

Looks like we dodged another bullet missing on Cj Madoff 😂😭

Sad to say that there's signs with certain types. He was far more focused on money then anything else he talked about. Playing time being 1b. Wrong people in your corner if as a recruit your primary concern is bread.

I feel like people wanted him over Judd because he’s a local and he’s connected to JJ Smith as his hs qb. It always comes back to JJ here. 🤣
It was never him OR judd. We were after big names and he was attempting to price himself in with them. Judd got pennies and had zero demands.

And he wouldn't have come here if we told him we were gonna red shirt him even if we gave into his money demands.

Ok. So maybe if all things are even we take Bailey over Judd as a development type but Bailey thought he was worth real qb money at the time. Makes sense in that context.

There is a good chance that happened. Even if he didn’t end up redshirting, it wasn’t like he was going to get very many snaps in 2024 anyways. If he was hypothetically on the team, this board would have burned down if we gave him the keys for 2025. With all that was at stake, we had to go the portal route

Pre-Mensah/Still-dreaming-of-Jeremiah? Yes.

What were our choices? Sorsby?
We never took him serious for several reasons. #1 He wanted starter money. #2 He wanted a commitment of playing time or the ability to play as a freshman.
#3 initially we were flipping Raiola & we backed out of that due to some character concerns. Than we moved on to Sayin who was a silent for the last month of the season. Where in that world should you prioritize an overrated Cj Bailey & his demands?

I recall you telling me about Raiola and Sayin. Amazingly, we ended up better off the way we went in the portal.

It is a fact we ended up better off. It is also true we rolled the dice and hit big 3 out of 3 times. I think there was a fair amount of luck in how we ended up with Ward, Beck and Mensah. I just don't think you can rely on that as a winning strategy over time. I'm happy we're landing more talented HS QBs now.

I am actually good going the portal route each year. I get that it’s a gamble but if you are regularly one of the very top qb destinations and nil spenders, as we’ve become, o think it’s best to go the proven commodity route.
