CJ Bailey needs to come home

Watched Sellers live last night in Death Valley. Would be absolutely incredible with an OL.

He’s out there running for his life with absolutely zero protection and basically no weapons.

He can make all the throws, he just has zero time.

The thing that stuck out to me as “next level” was his decision making in the RPO game. Really impressive how he’s able to see the field and process under extreme duress.

I think he would be incredible at Miami. The only thing we’d need to do is treat his PTSD until he realizes he has time in the pocket.

him or hoover

Hoover is my pick. The Cal kid seems to be a west coast kid but why not - shoot our shot. But, if we land a kid like JKS, we might lose every QB on the roster including Coleman. lol Kid can sling it, though.

It will be interesting to see who goes after the kid. If I was UCLA, I'd tell Nico to kick rocks after this year and throw the bank at JKS. USC might go after him as well.

Indiana was 0-2 against ranked teams last year. They are 2-0 this year. They aren’t the same team and Mendoza is a big reason why.

I don’t care about 300-yard games. This isn’t North Texas.

Mendoza has 17 TDs, 2 INTs with 9.3 yards per attempt and 71% completion. He’s throwing to every quadrant of the field and is a projected first round pick. And his team is ranked in the Top 3.

The guy is good and the rest of America knows it.
I like Mendoza (posted about him multiple times in the portal window), but in a sense I think both of you are correct.

Mendoza struggles with processing in certain situations. However, he is a good traits guy that is very good running the RPO game. His decision making on RPOs is quick and generally good and he can make every throw. He also has enough mobility to keep defenses honest by tucking it and running.

So Cig and Shannahan have had to simplify the playbook for him quite a bit and it’s very heavily RPO. But it plays to Mendoza’s strengths and he is very effective running it and a quality leader.

How that all translates to the NFL is above my pay grade for sure.

Virtually identical to CJ in production. CJ is bigger, more mobile, probably a better arm, and more accurate.
I don't have anything against Bailey.

Sellers would be a grand slam.

I was told by a QB savant that almost anyone can play QB at Miami with OL, Running game, weapons, and offense.

CJ Bailey in year 3 could easily throw for close to 4K with 30 TDs, but would bring running ability we don't have.

He would be a home run, Sellers would break Hank Aaron's(RIP) real HR Record.

Why would we lose Coleman he wasn’t ever gonna start as a true freshman here? JKS would likely leave as a junior to the NFL and Coleman would be a redshirt sophomore competing for the starting job

Every winning QB is a game manager. Great QBs are just game managers who can do more.

Mendoza, as a Heisman candidate and first rounder on a Top 5 team, is a great college QB. That’s not a debate anywhere outside this board.

Bailey, we’ll see. To me, what separates him from others is his combination of youth, experience and tools. He’s started since his true freshman year and knows how to manage the game. But he’s also a true sophomore with time to grow. At 6’6 with a great arm and good wheels, I think he would flourish in a strong environment (as Mendoza has) and move on to the NFL.

But there will be other candidates and nobody knows how it will turn out.
I really want to know what “manage the game” means…Can’t be take care of the ball because cj is throwing picks

I agree that every good qb is a game manager tho

Mendoza is good, i was saying we should go after him in the offseason but he would only be a first rounder because the nfl is QB thirsty and he fits their exact prototype

They don't ask Mendoza to do more because he's not capable of doing more.

He's had only Three 300yd+ games in 3 years as a starter & all of them came last year.

Whenever he's been put in a situation where he had to do more than what's outside of the confines of the system, he regresses to the mean.

Indiana is not winning because of his "elite" QB play, they're winning because they have a very good Defense & 4-man rushing attack.

His job is to play safe & not turn the ball over; same thing JJ McCarthy did for Cheatagain.

He's not been remotely close to being the best QB in the nation this season & is only looked at as a Heisman candidate because QB play overall is way way down from last year.

Indiana went 11-2 making the playoffs last year with Kurtis Rourke as their QB basically putting up the same numbers Mendoza is now. Acting as if Indiana's success is because of Mendoza is shortsighted.

They're the same team they were last year.

If we're grading all QB's by the same standards, IMO what Mendoza does in games doesn't match the hype & fanfare he receives, both on this board or Nationally.
100% He's a very good QB but not close to the best in the nation and not better than Beck.

He started off hot but he’s been *** the last few games. 6 ints in the last 3 and 7 total on the season
The 1st game of the season, he was bad. His accuracy was awful like last season. I have been scouting QB's and he wouldn't make my top 5 list of wanted portal QB's at this time. We have no idea who will enter the portal so he could end up in it. Right now, Sorsby is my guy. I will be watching all season so it could change easily. It already has.

Have you watched Malik Washington from MD???

Mendoza is an excellent game manager… as long as the team that surrounds him drags him to a dub he won’t get in the way.

Mac jones 2.0
Mac Jones won a national title.
Mac Jones completed passes at a 77% (!!!!) rate.
Mac Jones had a 41:4 TD:INT ratio. FORTY ONE TO FOUR.
Mac Jones had an ELEVEN POINT TWO parts per attempt, its one of the best numbers ever for a QB with that volume.

If anyone tells me Ferny Mendoza is Mac Jones (also, Mac Jones is one of the smartest QBs you'll meet...he's already been on three teams taking starts under three different systems and doing well enough in them) then sign me up 100 times out of 100. That is a national championship winning QB and first round pick. That isn't, in any way, a slight.

My preliminary choices for 2026 include:

Josh Hoover
Dylan Raiola
Ferny Mendoza

Then your Sellers, CJ Bailey types. Also, keeping an eye on Mateer who is only a junior and would be tier one, but lets see how this year breaks down for him.

Keeping an eye on Jeff Fisch's QB and Nico Iamaleava.

Some kids want to come in and start pretty quickly. Not saying Coleman is the type, but just saying...

He also had two first round draft picks at WR including the Heisman Trophy winner. Not to mention a 1st round pick at RB and another 3rd rounder at RB. He had ALOT of help
