CJ Bailey needs to come home

Bailey has all the tools to be successful. It’s whether you trust the program to develop him and right now we are that kind of program. I wouldn’t have said that a few years ago.

And the local connection is a good thing not a bad thing. That kid will jump at the chance to transfer to Miami. That likely means more NIL money to replenish the rest of the roster.

NIL stuff aside, a hometown kid being successful at QB for UM would be great for the program and fun for the fanbase.

It's possible. Don't think so though. **** be third round or so I'd imagine. It's probably time he moves on. The main thing agents try to pitch for someone like him isnt draft position. It's his game being solid enough to get a decent first contract where he's at so he can position himself for a big 2nd contract. Longer he stays here the more he diminishes that opportunity because the physical positions in particular have a shelf life on how long they'll be able to play let alone be difference makers.

I think Moten is gone

Miami is retooling on both sides of the line so it will be interesting next year

My concern with Bailey is the mental side of the game.

Based on everything we know, both Ward and Beck excelled in that area.

I know Bailey has the physical tools, but can he decipher coverages and pressures pre-snap? I have my doubts.

Stop with the CJ Bailey needs to "come home"

The standard at Miami has changed. We are a CFP program that has won 20 games over the last two season with elite QB play. The standard does not get reduced because someone is a hometown kid.

At this moment, CJ is not one of the nations premier QB talents and needs to work on his game elsewhere.

Luke Nickle & it's not even close. At some point we're gonna have to show TOP TIER HIGH SCHOOL QBS were capable of developing them and were a logical choice for them because we will play them. I like Nickles game but more importantly it's a timing thing. We will be breaking in a lot of new starters next year on both sides of the ball. Let them play and develop together. If we keep going for a quick one year option at QB from the portal every year we might as well make the decision moving forward not to bother wasting time and resources on recruiting high school QBs. I understand the logic obviously in taking a PROVEN portal QB. But when so many other prices are also gonna be in transition then it's an opportunity to prove what we're capable of. I'd play nickle and water down the playbook to limit his risks. No different from what Ohio State has done with sayin or Oregon with moore or bama with simpson or georgia with their QB. The schools that take this serious look for stability and multiple years out of essentially the most important player on the field. Can't do that if it's a new one every year. As I've said all along about the portal. When you're a school that recruits and develops their recruits than the portal is something you go to simply to fill in the blanks. It's about finishing touches on what is already a built roster. Not a base to what you're doing. Gonna be bumps in the road but that's how you develop culture and build a machine. We can't constantly process what we are then don't have our actions back up our words.
So has Nickel shown anything for the staff to believe he’s a legit option? Or are you just speaking that because it’s what you would hope to be the case for program trajectory?

It’s easier to focus and execute on the mental side of the game when you’re supported by the kind of talent and staff we have at Miami.

A QB with his physical profile being able to see over our linemen, with time to make his reads with the kinds of olines this staff puts out, projects well for us.

The numbers show he’s at minimum a competent above average D1 QB. You can’t do that without at least some mental acumen.

Questions on accuracy and processing the game quickly enough will be bigger questions at the pro level than at the level of competition he has already been playing at for the past two years.

I get what you saying but this program isn’t at a point yet where they can take that kind of risk. Also I don’t think this is a situation where nickel has showed he is the future like sayin did last year at osu. We can’t afford to drop back down to 8 wins right now
Not sure who told you that. Last season devin brown was chip Kelly's personal project. I have a friend on that staff and it's widely known if chip kelly would have stayed sayin was jumping back in the portal. His game would never belong in a chip kelly offense. All the same I get what you're saying. Simply disagree. #1 to a fan dropping down to 8 wins is horrible. To a football team getting to 8 wins while having upward trajectory in developing our own recruits can go a long way towards the teams future. Think us in 99 because our 97 & 98 classes had the opportunity to mesh. We built the best college football team ever as a result of 99 in particular and 2000. Sacrifice is necessary for progress. The alternative is spend 2 to 4 million on a QB while also having to spend on your oline, your dline, definitely your lbs & possibly another te. Too much is in transition next year to think spending on another quick fix at QB is a solid answer. I'm fine with taking another QB as long as it's someone who will be here for multiple years. Otherwise I'll pass and simply develop nickle and coleman.

When you compare CJ to what’s theoretically available at the portal next season and what we currently have our roster, the “standard does not get reduced.”

That’s just a platitude too. Not serious analysis.

Trajectory more than anything. Nickle showed us plenty in off-season when we had time and opportunity to give him reps. In season that's not in the third string QBs cards with no dedicated QB coach

Embrace the prospect of being successful with local kids.

People are traumatized from the dark ages of this program and forgetting part of what made this program not only successful nationally, but also why it’s generated as much support at home as it has.

It’s different rooting for UM in Miami than an nfl franchise. This university program has deeply embedded cultural roots. It is not some corporation or franchise.

Watching Toney and Bain do their thing at Miami is as cool as it gets as a fan.

Watching Wes close out his career with a solid senior season in a nationally elite defense has also been nice to see.

Miami can and will do better than CJ Bailey
Who? Leavitt is definitely not a better passer. Sorsby isn't better. Kid from Pitt isn't better. Where's the Cam Ward this year?

JKS is basically the only prospect anyone has brought up who may be better but he's not currently better. That's a projection into being a 2nd year starter. Maybe maybe Sellers. Not sure he can keep up in the passing game but he's certainly got more potential than Leavitt.

Well that’s encouraging, maybe bring in a vet through the portal and let that guy battle with Nickel? Is that a possibility?

People must not remember how bad Joe burrow was before he got talent around him ! You can see who don’t really know football on this chat

The thing about Burrow is he wasn't bad in my opinion. He was good but not great. Most fans think these guys can't improve. Some do improve, some don't improve, some make superstar leaps like Burrow and Jayden Daniels.

I’ve said this forever. If you don’t show these young QB’s that they’re just going to sit for 3-4 years watching rentals then why should they even consider us.
Why can’t we have a QB that succeeds early as MANY other schools do as Fr or RSF ? At some point we are going to have to trust the evals you made in getting these kids here and at least find out if they can play or not.We had many chances to let Luke gain some experience this year and Mario kept running A kid out there that anyone that’s ever watched a CFB game would know he’s not a starter.

Now why was this? Did you miss on Luke ? Can he not learn the playbook? He should have been the choice every chance we had to play a backup but all we saw was Emory who belongs in the FBS at best.At some point we have to get a kid in here that we have for 3-4 years.

How about you stfu. I didn't say it was a problem.. I said I don't like relying on it. How many teams took qb's out of the portal and didn't make the playoffs? We've been lucky and we paid big $$ and we're still at 500 making the playoffs with a portal qb. How's the portal qb thing working out for fsu? We got lucky to pull two qb's back from the NFL.. otherwise we were ****ed running Poff out there. Don't forget how many we actually missed on that went to other teams.

Sucks you got sand in your ****** but sure seems to me like you were implying it's a problem. Who on the current roster would you feel at all confident in starting next year and not being a monumental decline from what we've had with Ward/Beck?
