CJ Bailey needs to come home

The thing that's most intriguing about CJ Bailey to me is that he's already a solid QB with all the physical traits, but also clearly has a lot of room for improvement. That should be exciting.

Also, unless he takes a huge leap forward next year and looks like a high draft pick, we may have him for two years.

The debate is over as a college player. He’s likely the Heisman winner and qb for the top team in the country. I think he’s risky for a top pick but as D said spot matters. I personally wouldn’t draft him at the top. But he was a helluva college qb. Eat the L and move on.
Exactly. Not sure why people care about what they do in the NFL. Obviously you want your guys to do well later, but winning in college is what you bring them in for.

Something to keep in mind when you watch Saturday's Heisman ceremony:

CJ Bailey (two years at NC State)

68%, 5,297 yards, 7.9 YPA, 40 TDS, 19 INTs, 494 rushing yards, 10 TDs

Fernando Mendoza (two years at Cal)

66%, 4,712 yards, 7.5 YPA, 30 TDs, 16 INTs, 197 rushing yards, 4 TDs

When I first brought up Mendoza as a Miami option last year, most of the responses were, "We can do better," "We're only talking about him because he's from South Florida," or worse. Those posts aged like the girl from Top Gun.
Yeah with BETTER talent around him (better run game, much better Oline play, and much better WR play) and better coaching, this guy would cut down on the interceptions and raise that completion percentage. Those are the two places he needs to improve. Especially decision making when pressured. He would be pressured way less often here.

We can and should do better.

This program is now an elite destination for any player, especially a QB.

Let's shoot for the moon.
The qb position is down across cfb. You have a qb who didn’t even throw for 3k about to win the heisman. There is no real elite qb. All these guys mentioned are about the same. It’s more about who fits best

The highlight is if it is Bailey you get someone with 2 years P4 experience 68% completion and 5500 yards and 50 TDs. Can’t really pretend that is nothing.

Sorsby should be offer 1 and give him whatever you can but if he’s gone and Lane who has $25m in NIL gets Leavitt and Mestemaker follows his HC and it comes down to Sellers and Bailey - is the difference that large?

Meh. We could do better imo.
I agree 100%. There is nothing I saw from this kid this year that made me say wow. I know he’s hometown kid and all, but that’s not gonna get it done at this level. Not the level we’re at and want to stay at. Give me Levitt if he’s healthy. That’s the guy right there.

Until we're sure of who the OC will be next season, I don't know how any of these questions are answered by people who don't even get to evaluate these players up close. At least if we knew it's Dawson, we could generally guess how a skill set would fit into a known system.

I understand this D money, but there’s legitimate concerns with Bailey’s arm strength. And there’s no getting around that. He doesn’t have a big arm, regardless of what people want to make up in their head. And that lack of arm strength has gotten him in trouble. Also his decision-making with pressure is suspect as well. It’s almost like you forgot how he looked against us this year.

Who in the world cares if Mendoza busts in the league? He's leading the #1 team in the country and is about to win the Heisman trophy. After a kid leaves here, if he wanted to go live on the moon, I couldn't care less. Just win here.

Also, just a totally unnecessary stray at Kelly McGillis here. Yeah, she’s aged like an avocado on the surface of the sun, but she didn’t think she’d catch a DMoney roundhouse while having her morning coffee reading about her Canes.
The two 80s actresses that have aged the worst of anyone are by far Kelly McGillis and Kathleen Turner. It’s a bit scary looking at both those ladies now. Especially being a kid in the 80s and seeing the movies romancing the stone and top gun and having a bit of a crush on both of them. Time isn’t always kind that’s for sure. Lol

Why wouldn’t it be Dawson?

I don’t get how people just ignore how he folds against good teams. Mendoza did the opposite. Playing great against avg opponents doesn’t win you championships. You need guys who excel when under fire. This guy has never shown he is that…

Leavitt hasn’t done anything that wows you. He is a good qb but he isn’t elite. Leavitt, Bailey, sorsby and etc are all about the same

CJB's best attributes are showing improvement year to year, having more than one year to play, familiarity with ACC defenses and being immediately embraced by the team.

As QB, he has decent mobility, a good enough arm and more or less fits what we do on offense. I think he would be a better RPO QB than Beck. That said, you better be ready to spread teams out so he can process pre-snap a lot easier, because if he feels a free rusher, there's a 50/50 ball coming.
