Why no highlights in this article?Miami and coach Mario Cristobal have just secured another experienced wide receiver from the transfer portal, as Cincinnati slot receiver Tony Johnson has committed to the team.
Tony is a three-star transfer portal wide receiver. Although he was not rated out of high school, he hails from Ocala, Florida, which is about five hours away from Miami's campus in Coral Gables.
Tony is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound receiver who recorded 48 receptions for 449 yards last season. Johnson was a key player for Cincinnati during his lone season with the program, having transferred from FAU last year.
During his time at FAU, he recorded a total of 669 receiving yards over two years, catching 60 passes and scoring seven touchdowns.
Tony now joins a huge transfer portal class by Mario Cristobal.
Welcome to the family.
Unless he returns kicks or some sleeper type transfer.. why spend on this dude versus developing your young talented WR’s and avoid losing them to the portal.
If a guy isn’t a difference maker not sure why a take like this is worth it
Ehh I would make the argument that no matter what you want to provide your QB with the best supporting cast possible take a lot of pressure off him with guys who can make playsI find it interesting that Miami has just added 2 WR's, plus got Ny Carr to comeback & people still feel like we need more...
You'd think with one of the best QB's in the country you guys would have a lot more faith that he's got enough weapons to get us over the hump.
But apparently not.
Seems like another one of those situations where you guys say one thing, but think/feel something entirely different.

Posted in another thread in case you want to see production profile compared to a few guys last year…
He had 48 receptions out of 73 targets - 65.7% with an aDOt of 6.3. So he doesn’t stretch the field and isn’t efficient.
For comparison, Restrepo had 69 (nice) receptions out of 100 targets; 69% with an aDOt of 11.27 yards. Even JG was more efficient with a 9.4 ADot as one of our primary screen catchers.
Either he’s not as fast as 4.3, can’t catch, can’t get open or the QB couldn’t throw the ball that far because he’s really inefficient and is 2.5 yards less per target than our lowest WR last year. Restrepo and JG averaged over 9 yards aDot even with TVD…
He saw Norvell headed his way with a jar of Diddy’s cream and said “**** naw” and GTFOT…..The Norvell back rub was way too rough...

Pardon the question mate but why do you feel this way regarding Ray Ray? Is it because it’s Year3 or something else?Carr is not a slot, he’s built like Jacoby and moves like him. Marion is 6’0 200, the only true small slot WRs are Toney, RayRay, and Johnson. I have no faith in RayRay, so it’s Johnson and Toney that is perfectly fine at Slot.
Receivers have to be approached like offensive and defensive tackles now. Gotta try to get them out of high school.I seriously question the lack of intelligence by some on this board.
A **** ton, let me repeat, a **** ton of players end up in the portal because they were initially back channeled, not only because they always had an intention to enter. If you are not back channeling players, you might as well get your bag and go home. Meaning, if you simply wait for someone to enter the portal, you already lost.
We are CONSTANTLY attempting to get dudes in the portal. Sometimes it works out, other times it doesn't. Missing on a guy who officially entered the portal and one who didn't, but we attempted to get him to, is the exact same.
That's not that big of a difference though. In 10 days, Miami odds have gone from +320 to now +340 to win the ACC
Vegas is not impressed with the portal haul
It should be changing the other way if you’re adding good playersThat's not that big of a difference though.
Not defending the portal haul just pointing out that going by Vegas odds that change less than 10% in April don't really mean much
If one teams get lower another teams will probably go up. And if the odds change by 5-6% that literally means nothing even if this was 2 hours before kickoff that's literally a nothing burger. It should be changing the other way if you’re adding good players
Clemson didn’t add a single player and their odds got stronger
It’s literally comparing before the portal opened and closed how the odds changed in the last 10 daysIf one teams get lower another teams will probably go up. And if the odds change by 5-6% that literally means nothing even if this was 2 hours before kickoff that's literally a nothing burger.
Now going from +320 to +550 would be meaningful but you're just throwing **** out there. It's nonsense
I’m not sure why you think it’s a big enough difference for you to bring up but go on aheadIt’s literally comparing before the portal opened and closed how the odds changed in the last 10 days
If you added some free agents in the portal, the odds would shifted greater in your favor
