@Confidence1000 please don’t use that word in a derogatory manner towards anyone on CIS because you may unintentionally offend someone. I completely agree with you that it is how black people communicate with each other, just as every group of people has certain words that are unique to them that others just can’t and should not use. You know how to use it and how not to. But remember the message board is being read by people other than your intended reader.
@rsa coral gables. My brother, you know whether you are black and can use that word, just as you know whether you are Latino or Asian or any other group. So please just use the words that you know won’t offend anyone who is not in your group. Anything more is not worth the trouble. Think Jimmy Buffett vibes.
As a side note, when I was graduating law school, I found myself at a party where I was the only non-black person. I am Indian by birth, but can easily pass as Italian or generally Mediterranean. Anyway, someone was making a joke about white people at the party, when it became quiet and a few people turned and looked at me.
Before I could say anything, one of my law school classmates said, “don’t worry about him, he’s a N***a too”. At which point everyone was cool and the jokes were flying. All that to say, despite being given a pass, I have never used the word (unless admittedly rapping by myself along with listening to Ice Cube, Dre, Snoop, Jay Z, etc…).
@RVACane and I can’t moderate this issue between you two adults. We need you to rely on your own sense of decorum.
Use this standard. If you would not say it to someone’s face, don’t type it on CIS.
