Chick With A Nice NFL Career

What he’s done in the league is irrelevant. I am talking about how he would’ve been drafted higher had he been used properly in college. That’s it. I’m not justifying nor grading his NFL career.

What’s so hard to understand about that.

He could have also blown his knee out after his first NFL play and never played another down. It’s completely irrelevant what he did in the NFL. I’m talking about his draft status a few years ago.

Except plenty of guys who produced in college aren't drafted high so him producing lets say an extra 4 sacks a year wouldn't have ment him being drafted substantially higher

Chick plays a very valuable role in Steelers scheme special teams and fills in on D in a couple positions to support starters again I assure you before they gave Chick his raise they interviewed fellow starters ,coaches and film no doubt everyone said Chick is our guy to come in a spell us he knows the D calls he knows and has field presence he doesn't complain he'll run through a wall if asked and trains like it's his last breath.

So I ask everyone would anyone here have an issue of Chick filling multiple rolls from special teams to back-up play and yes even start if called upon , with all you've seen of him would you want Chick on your team.

I'm sure a **** YES plus I'd pay him well for his work ethic and team play.

I'm finished here on this , proof is Chick plays in the NFL and Steelers love him on there team and they wanted to reward him for his efforts .

He's been in the league for how long now?

You'd think the way you're discussing him he would have put him some sort of stats already.

He's been out of college for a while so the Golden excuse is out the window, he's been receiving NFL coaching for many years now and is still a rotational/backup guy.

No shame in that, he'll be collecting solid paychecks
That what I’m saying!! They are using completely revisionist history. Him out of Miami the consensus from scouts who reported on him was he was a Tweener. No real position. Not an explosive athlete to be a pass rush specialists and not big enough to be a everydown DE. But chick was smart, technically sound and played hard. Ppl acting as if that calling him a scrub. No that’s calling it what it is.

At the U, yes he put on too much weight to soon to do what he was asked to do. Everybody agrees on that. At 267 and a couple months of training he went to the combine and tested as a DE. Athletically tested out average.

Pit drafted him in the 6th to fit their hybrid DE/OLB role. In 5 years after changing to the OLB/DE Spot, elite training, slimming down to 255-260 and great coaching his NFL production validated his Draft stock, Draft selection and college production. Those are facts. If anything chick is beating the odds. But to sit here and act like if he would’ve weighed at Miami 255-260 he would’ve ran a mid/ low 4.6 time and that would’ve automatically made him a 2nd, 3rd or 4th rd pick at that OLB/DE position is just crazy.

Tad, Canes bias aside, from what I read on twitter most Steelers fans aren't a fan of him? What do you think?
As a fellow Steelers fan I think its all about opportunity and mgmt. First rounders and vets usually get preference (Cough Dupree cough) to fail for a while but once they get close to the end of contracts you will see players like Chik get the opportunity. That at the very least is what happens in Pittsburgh usually. Once he starts to get some starts over Dupree, I think his tenacity, motor and skill will keep him higher in the rotation.

Well he was drafted in the sixth round after playing obese and out of position in a horrific scheme.

So I could see him easily getting drafted in the third had he been used properly as an end, or end/LB hybrid. The guy even ran a 4.8 at the combine after having spent the prior four years as a tub of goo.

Had not Gluten and Dorito and turned him into a parade float, I could definitely see him being drafted in the higher rounds.

that's all I'm saying, big money difference between 6th round and rounds 1-3. If chick was in our system as a dlineman he would've ate and got drafted high. If Bjorn Werner could go first then so could've chick lmao

He would’ve certainly gone higher than the sixth round. He would’ve already been in shape and used those three months to perfect his testing skills. If you don’t think that’s what happens, you’re not paying attention. These guys hire coaches to help them run better cone drills, run faster 40s, the whole 9 yards. If you don’t know that, you’re just not following.

Instead, chick had to worry about dieting to lose 30-40 pounds of flab, on top of the training.

Let me tell you, anybody that knows anything about training, if you’re trying to lose weight and training, it screws you’re training up. There is no doubt he would’ve tested way better. Which means higher draft choice.

I'm a Ravens fan and I appreciate players like Heyward... goes to work and handles his business. No off the field or on the field distractions!

pittsburgh has invested capital( 2 1 st round picks) of 2 LBs who are ahead of him in Tj watt and bud Dupree. Dupree is ok and watt has been pretty good. Not like he doesn’t have anything in front of him..
