CHASESMITH 6th Year? Rumors of return?

Look man I've been saying Wiley should have received more developmental snaps throughout the season. Now his lack of experience is going to be used against him in this snow application decision making.

I believe in Wiley. I don't blindly trust this staff will play young lbs over experienced lbs though Period. And it's truly annoying as **** we chose to lose popo and Bobby to retain chase and not target anyone in portal when it was DEEP at LB.
Bobby did nothing here.

POPO is a loss

Watching Mendoza run through our linebackers the score that touchdown what’s painful to watch.

This is one position group where nothing should be promised to a starter. I don’t care how much or less they’re making on NIL….. play the best players

i'm not suggesting our linebackers are good in coverage, i AM suggesting that they were good enough for us to make the national championship game

we'd love to upgrade every position, but i'm sure retaining our roster was expensive

what evidence did we have the scott and thomas would raise our ceiling? i believe in the coaching
Our linebackers were supported by great DL and S play last season. The run support from the edge will not be the same without Bain/Mesidor, and Jakobe Thomas won't be running that alley like he did so many times last year (with Scott doing the same from Nickel) so i expect these LBs to have more on their plate next year, not just tackle to tackle.

I don't like the idea of Toure and Smith on the field at the same time, unless it's 3rd/4th and short. They are thumpers but struggle in space. I prefer the idea mentioned earlier of Toure/Smith at Mike and Bonner/Wiley at Will.

It's a major deal as far as I am concerned. I feel much better now.

Been hoping he was coming back since November. You don't think he'll start at OLB next to Toure?

with popo officially out via the portal, we need like **** for this waiver to pass. Chase can be a very solid backup LB. We need quality depth badly. Anyone who doesn’t Chase Smith back in spades got fed Tylenol by the bottle as a toddler.

Diaz was DC and coached LBs... So no that itself isn't a valid excuse.

If Heatherman doesn't have Wiley developed and contributing that is an area he failed. Period. Idk why y'all think Heatherman can't possibly do anything wrong? Lol. ... There is no excuse not to Have Wiley ready to start. Thats just how I see it. If Chase is starting over Wiley it's a fail on the staff
Why do you think Wiley won’t be developed? We have had only 1 year of Hetherman as a LB coach, in that one year Wes was named 3rd team ALL ACC and Toure was named honorable mention All ACC. Miami hasn’t had two All ACC LB since 2019 with Shaq and Pinckney.

Did you not see evidence of player development at LB during the season? What’s the true issue here? Is it you just believe Wiley will not be give a far shot to play at LB because you believe Mario will not allow Hetherman to start a player at LB who is not a senior?

Do you believe Wiley is the only dynamic athlete in the LB room and the only hope of having elite play at the position?

Have you not watched Bonner play?

Even with the injuries, Chase still has nice speed and burst to him.

Chase has always been pretty stiff and straight line. Doesn’t really have the best change of direction. We’ll see how the LB room turns out and if he improves.

Everything is earned and nothing is given. Play Chase because he has the experience and feel. If the younger players are better than play them but if Chase is better, then he should play because we need the best 11 out there.
Chase should be looked at as a bonus at this point he’s not one of the best linebackers on the team he’s just a great story.

Yall can say what you want but for the life of me I don't know Wiley didnt get more snaps. Chase and Popo were not so good that Wiley couldn't have driven more.

I sat next to Wiley pops at the Notre Dame game, cool dude. He was hollering for him to get some burn, and I was thinking this is week 1 opener vs our rival he's not getting any starter burn at LB in this one, saw him on special teams making an impact.
I like Chase but he is a bit stiff, I agree Wiley should have gotten some meaningful reps throughout the year.

Love how everyone knows better than the coaches. Yeah, played the lesser player cause didn’t want to play the better. Wanted to simply keep other teams in game rather than blow them out. Last 7-8 games of season were big boy games, so not the time to go off script.
