Charlie Strong

Sounds and looks like a guy headed for the gallows.

The only question that remains is WHEN.

My guess is they wait until after the last game, and not fire him today or tomorrow. What's another week or so?

Strong will be fired after the last game. In the meantime backroom discussions between Texas boosters and agents for Tom Herman are underway. Herman may have a choice of jobs, so UT will start the negotiations above what LSU could offer.

Some think UT may take a (another) run at Saban.

Why would Saban start over at UT?

Unless he has some weird itch to build another program and cement a legacy in his mind. But that's a huge risk. Why take it?

I'm just not seeing a good reason for him personally to make that choice. He's got a once-in-a-lifetime thing going. Why tempt fate? Too many unknown variables in the equation.

I agree with all of this but I could see Nick Saban being such an ego maniac that he would take the UT job anyway.

He'd have to be a malignant egomaniac. It would be an insane risk and twice as much work.

Unless they literally give him several hundred million dollars, I don't see it.

This video is outstanding. I'd almost trade a clip of Alfredo sauce having to say this over his post-Clemson alma mater "singing".

Jesus. Looks like he's about to cry. I feel a little bad for the guy. So does Texas go after Herman or offer Saban/Meyer a blank check.

Edit: Just saw others above discussing Saban.

Saban is an egomaniac so I could totally see it. Give him a few extra million and he can win a championship at 3 different schools? But then again at Bama/SEC the NCAA is in his pocket and he gets away with anything.

I don't disagree at all but would it surprise you if it happened?

It would not surprise me if UT thought they could buy Saban. It would shock me if he made a deal, given the run he's on at Bama, the money he already makes, and his age.

What's he making now with incentives and side deals? $10 million per? Maybe a little more?

The absolute only way I see this is if some Texas oil men offer him some side deals where the potential reaches a total of $100 million over a few years. You know, some real money.

He will go somewhere like NC State and do a good job.

You're still sticking to this point. Unless he has some great QB, I beg to differ. The way his defenses were awful and UT, what is the appeal?

Is he going to out coach UL, FSU and/or Clemson?

Charlie Strong is the perfect candidate to take over the Cincinnati program from Tommy Tuberville.

Cincinnati has some of the best high school football in the country. All he has to do is grab some hungry local talent, mix in some guys from Florida and Texas who want to get out of the state (for whatever reason), and go compete against USF and Temple to win the AAC East.

If he does the job right, he can finish his career on a high note. Make that program relevant again, and compete on the level where he's had the most success as an HC.
