Change is Gonna Come...

How the **** did you reach that conclusion? That's the not question being discussed. Some dummy said that co-coordinators don't work. Obviously it works pretty well for coaches with lots of national championships and dozens of other HCs across CFB. Whether co-coordinators will work for Diaz or not has nothing to do with the concept of having co-coordinators. He can have one ****ty coordinator or two equally ****ty co-coordinators and there isn't going to be a big difference in performance. If on the other hand he brings in a top tier DC and Baker is the non-play calling co-DC, it could work just fine.

As a hypothetical example, let's say Miami reached out to Charlie Strong. He's an analyst at Bama (most of their analysts make well under 100k per year there). I wouldn't be surprised if he'd happily take the title of title of play calling Co-DC to get back into the coordinating game. He'd also primarily coach LBs, so then Baker wouldn't do much except maybe fetch coffee and be the co-DC in title. The reason that Baker would be kept around is that he's under contract and Diaz thinks he could still get some use out of him (he gets paid what he's owed whether he's on the staff or not- hence the word "contract". Now what value he could possibly still have is a valid question). If the D has a big bounce back year with Strong as the playcalling co-DC, Baker's reputation gets somewhat rehabbed then some G5 team will hire Baker away next year to be a full time DC, and that team can buy out the remainder of his contract. The reality is that Baker would have to be willing to accept the demotion to non-play calling co-DC or he could resign (in which case he doesn't get paid the remainder of his contract). Either way it solves the biggest problem, which is that he's not very good at the Xs and Os and shouldn't be the play calling DC anymore.
I mean charlie strong was co dc at florida with Greg mattison in 2006 so it wouldn't be the first time. **** urban meyer and his co cordinators

Well unless you’re paying F you money most really good dc’s arent knocking down a coaches door going in to year three without an extension and already fired most of both sides of the ball. It can be difficult lol.
I said last year that getting good assistants under manny would be a problem. We upgraded at oc, but getting a former hc as dc under manny, like strong or Leavitt, will be hard to do I think

imo He’s going to be co DC by title only and LB coach. No more game day calling.
if that's
I love how we are suppose to apologize to a coach for doing his most basic job.

I wish I could fail miserably at my job and then have people apologize to me next year for just doing my most rudimentary responsibilities.
yea what you think Manny is a weatherman..

The co-dc could fit at DB or DL it just has to be the right guy. Then the other pieces will fall into place.

Personally, from what I’ve heard about Simpson and the times I met him... he could be our DC himself. I just don’t think Manny sees him that way or wants to be the first to jolt him to that position at this level or even Co-dc for this scenario.

The other 2 guys I have heard have already been DC or co-dc at the college level, of course Chris Wilson was co under manny and took over when he left MSU.
Ed Reed as safety coach would be pretty crazy. He's def. smart enough and his recruiting would be pretty sick.

Ive never seen a worse unit at any level. They are lost and just running around aimlessly. Like putting pads on some guys from a Norway bus stop and throwing them out there.

Watching Okie State put up 21 unanswered points on that defense in the First should have been a “pack your sh*t, you’re taking the bus home at the half “ moment for Baker. But it wasn’t. So here we are.....

Patke is a bit of an enigma. I've heard from multiple people close to the program that he has a very strong understanding of the game and has th potential to be a good DC. Yet, he doesn't mesh that well with south florida recruits.

Richt immediately promoted him to Co-DC after Manny left for Temple. Richt did not want to lose Patke yet Patke only joined the staff as an assistant coach a year or so earlier. Richt obviously valued his coaching abilities and Patke went from Grad Assistant to Co-DC in just two years or so.

He's hard to figure out, honestly.
