Yeah this year will give us good data with all of that, except it won’t be as many added games as that. The one thing to take into consideration in comparing last years records, to those going forward, is this is the first year of the SEC with 9 conference games.
If you add in that all P4 teams must play a P4 OOC game, there will potentially be an additional 2 “tougher” games for a few SEC programs and 1 additional “tougher” game for Big 10 programs like Indiana, who haven't played a P4 OOC since 2024.
If we look at 2007, where a 2 loss team won the NC, there would have been ten 3 loss and one 4 loss team, in a 24 team playoff.*
Arguably with the 9 conference games and 1 obligatory P4 game, schedules forward could be more difficult than those 2007 teams played. LSU had 2 losses while playing 1 P4 OOC, 8 SEC games and 3 cream puffs.
Almost all of the ten 3 loss teams played 3 crème puff games.
So three or four 4 loss teams and 8-10 three loss teams is possible under this scenario.
*Rankings pre CCG, with Hawaii & Boise State being G5 rep’s.
Almost all of the ten 3 loss teams played 3 crème puff games.
There would be no point in it remaining a top25 instead of just doing a top24 though....Imagine being ranked 25th in a 24 team playoff.
Will there still be a committee at this point? Might as well just let the AP decide it.There would be no point in it remaining a top25 instead of just doing a top24 though....
More money for ESPN, make the whiners happy and everyone gets a trophy mentality....same as the direction the whole country is going. Excellence doesn’t matter anymore...just whine, file a lawsuit and see what sticks to the wall. (oh, and the whiners can brag “we made the playoffs” to recruits). What a joke.It will ruin it , oh your team lost 3/4 games oh well no biggie you can still
Make the playoffs
Yea what’s the point a loss doesn’t matter, part of the fun of the big matchups ( which I don’t think will really happen like people are thinking they will anyways ) is also ruining the other teams season now it’s not even really a speed bump on the road to the playoffs. This encourages big non conference games. Teams were getting away from scheduling big time OOC opponents because there was no real upside with a win while a loss could destroy your playoff chances. I’d imagine that changes entirely with 24 teams
It never did and you still watched. Over the last 20 plus years our season was over by the end of September. What are you guys talking about?…lolbc the regular season doesn't mean **** now.
Another strange residual side effect to all of this is that mediocre coaches will now have more job security.
Go 8-4 three straight years in the SEC at a top program in years past and you were on the hot seat.
Now it more than likely means your job is safe with three consecutive playoff births.
