CFP Info from Miami OH AD

A buddy of mine who used to work at Miami University (OH) spoke with his former colleague, David Sayler, the athletic director at Miami U and a current member of the CFP selection committee. He asked him about ND vs. Miami for the final rankings, and this is what he said:

"If ND and Miami are side-by-side in the rankings, he thinks Miami will surpass ND. But he said there is about half of the committee that firmly believes ND is the better team at this stage. The other half of the committee firmly believes that head-to-head needs to mean something."

Not really surprising. And this doesn't make me think they will actually flip Miami and ND if we do actually end up side-by-side. I'm still assuming they will do whatever it takes to keep ND ahead of us. But this came from someone in the room. Make of it what you like.
What might be most frustrating, and there’s plenty to be frustrated with, is the fact that not only did we beat ND, it really wasn’t close. We never trailed. We were up 21-7 headed into the 4th before Mario decided to play prevent too early. If he doesn’t do that, the score likely widens. Oh and remember that terribly botched FG attempt that took 3 points off the board from us in the first quarter? We didn’t even play our best game and still won relatively comfortably. This wasn’t a fluke. It was control and arguably domination.

After watching the first 3-4 drives from each team, I felt confident we’d win and my heart rate was steady. I wasn’t glued to the TV. I was relaxed. We didn’t win on. Hail Mary or need some miracle play. In fact, plenty of calls and things didn’t go our way.

The same people who will say us running up the score at the ends of game shouldn't count will say that we played close games against ND and FSU when looking at the final scores.

Some are wrapping themselves into pretzels trying to explain away the obvious.

Here is the thing that I haven't heard a single person throw out.

"The committee said they will not punish teams for Conference Championship game performance."

Which means BYU when they lose will still remain 11, keeping us at arms length from ND. The whole if we are next to each other they will flip us narrative DOA.

This whole thing is a shame.
They didn't say that.

If they are side by side and don’t take Miami the whole thing is a sham. They baked Bama I’m already so hope they win bc that’s the insurance policy to flip them and ND to keep the side by side a non factor.

Not surprising, they are beating the “won 10 games in a row” narrative with ND. It’s their “eye test” metric that they seem to be using with ND but yet organizing the eye test metric for OU, bama, etc

They made it clear with last week rankings that the final spot is going to either BYU or at large with only ND and Miami in striking distance. Assuming BYU and Bama both lose, they’re deciding between the two of us - I don’t care what sort of spin they use to say there’s a buffer team or we aren’t ranked back to back, it’s two teams fighting for one spot and they need to be looked it in that way. I personally don’t think the SECCG loser who starts the week in the field will be moved out barring a major QB injury.

Been on the board for a while, just more of a spectator than a poster. Class of 2010, then worked at the school for about 7 years. All that to say, I'm no one. Just happened to have an interesting connection in this rare instance.
Are you Blake James?
