CFB Playoff show

For the life of my I do not understand how Clemson's loss to Syracuse is so forgivable, while ours, without our star RB, hobbled WR, and basically a backup QB all year gets NO grace.

What do you mean by "Backup QB all year"? Who was the starter that go injured?

Your mad that the committee seems to favor Clemson....OK....But

If one team is getting favored.....that means another is getting screwed......Who is getting screwed and why?

Can't say us.......5 teams ahead of us you can easily make a clear cut argument that they deserve to be ahead of us at this point....only #6 UGA is not clear cut.

I don't think Rosier was ever meant to be the starter here, do you? Kaaya left early, inexplicably, and SOMEONE had to be the starter.

As for who is getting screwed. Well, Clemson is #1 while we are #7 , with similar wins and losses. You don't think that's a ********?

Kaaya left last year......So the committee should cut us slack because Rosier was the best QB we have on the roster starting the season? That is a weak argument.

It is not ********.....It is similar losses.....not wins.

Best Wins......
Clemson has a win over #2 Auburn. We have a win over #15 Notre Dame (Both at Home).....Advantage Clemson
Clemson beat VT at VT by 14. We beat VT at home by 18. Advantage Clemson (road win)

Also Road wins.
Clemson
9-3 VT by 14 points
8-4 Louisville by 26 points
8-4 NC State by 14 points
8-4 South Carolina by 24 points

Miami Road wins
5-6 FSU by 4 points
6-6 Duke by 25 points
3-9 UNC by 5 points

Are you going to still argue it is similar wins? Pretty obvious it is not.

It is not similar wins and losses.....It is similar losses.

No schedule will EVER be perfectly even, and you know this. That's why you compare similar results. They lost to Syracuse, and we beat them. Even AFTER that, they were keeping Clemson ahead of us, even with our undefeated record at the time. Also... Auburn lost to LSU, who lost to TROY. Could it be, just maybe, that the SEC was vastly over rated? Troy beat LSU AT LSU, and LSU beat Auburn. That tells me something about Auburn. So, Auburn beat Georgia and Alabama. Who did Alabama beat? Who did Georgia beat? Georgia beat the same ND team by one that we beat by 33. So, how good is Georgia really? Seems to me the SEC is getting WAY too much credit for beating up on itself, while really proving NOTHING OOC. So really, Clemson beating Auburn means little to me. All it tells me is the SEC is over rated because they don't actually beat OOC teams.

If you are not even going entertain the fact that the Miami and Clemson schedules are wildly different and matter there is no point in arguing anymore.

The 4 Power 5 road victories over 8+ win teams by 14 points (Miami didn't have a road win over a team with a winning record and needed last minute plays against 2 losing teams)
The 6 Power 5 victories over teams with winning records (Miami has 2)

For you to honestly sit here and claim that any other scenario you would be arguing for a team with Miami's resume to be ranked ahead of Clemson is truly laughable.

This is 100% pure Orange and Green Glasses stuff.

Clemson lost to Syracuse without Bryant.

Miami beat Syracuse without Walton

Media are real good at finding excuses

These same media-nexus hounds, also, like to DIMINISH Miami's wins. Yet they will overlook Alabama's win over a pathetic FSU team. And Clemson's win over a Syracuse team which finished with a ' losing record. ' hUh. For instance, mighty ND was the DARLILNG of the media entering their game with OVERRATED Miami, and Miami BYTECHED SLAPPED those Celts back to small town South Bend. But now, these media types are saying Miami's win over ND isn't that significant and all that. SMH

The bottom line: Even if Miami defeats mighty Clemson, a majority, but not all, of these pundits will opine that Roll Tide deserves to be in over a conference champion Miami.

Ohio State's path to the playoff requires them beating Wisconsin, Oklahoma losing to TCU, and a prayer.

We beat Clemson in a close game, Clemson's getting in if one of Wisconsin or Oklahoma loses. That means the final spot comes down to Alabama/Oklahoma/Ohio State.

The committee has shown all year they don't like Oklahoma's defense, so even though they beat Ohio State, I think the Sooners would be out. Ohio State has the conf championship and at least 1 Top 10 win against the Badgers, so they'd probably get in, even over mighty Alabama.

All that madness happens, it'd be 1-SEC champ, 2-Miami, 3-Ohio State, 4-Clemson (to avoid the ACC rematch).

Go Canes.
I could see one tram getting in over bama. No way two teams get over saban

Ohio state is dead in the water, Oklahoma owns the tiebreaker head to head over Ohio state and H2H matters more than conference championship I would imagine

When teams are on common standing (i.e. record), the committee’s own guidelines from the P5 commissioners is to consider conference championships first, then H2H. It’s not binding by any means, but that is the first “tiebreaker.”

Seeing as how we'd own EVERY tie breaker over Clemson if we win, I can't imagine them leaving us out in favor of Clemson. My concern would be Alabama sliding in ahead of us, even though we'd be conference champs, and have two wins against top teams.

For the life of my I do not understand how Clemson's loss to Syracuse is so forgivable, while ours, without our star RB, hobbled WR, and basically a backup QB all year gets NO grace.

Because it's the Miami Hurricanes the pundits are opining about and all that. Any other team in Miami's position would be forgiven for losing Walton, and having Richards at ' 90% ' the entire season. hUh.

Not excusing it but our won without Walton is irrelevant because he's out for the year.

So our best player being out for the year is less impactful than their QB being out one game?
I'm saying that the committee doesn't take injuries into consideration "unless" said injured player is currently playing. Are you guys really this dense? The Clemson QB missed A SINGLE HALF of football, in the game they lost. He's currently the starting QB on said team. Again, I'm not justifying the committee's decision, just providing their justification. It's really not that difficult to follow.

Which further shows how STUPID the committee is, when a half of football is given more weight than an entire season.

You are kind of arguing out of both sides of your mouth. You want Clemson to be ranked below us because of 1 game when their season overall has been way more impressive.

Committee is giving weight to the entire season......That is why they are ranked #1 . No team has a better argument or resume over the entire season.

How come Bama doesn’t get the same pass as Clemson when they were playing Auburn with 6 defensive players from their rotation down for injury??

THIS THIS THIS.

Giving teams a break because of an injured player is super subjective and a very slippery slope. While quarterback is a very important position, how is it possible to measure how much that affects a team vs another teams injuries? What if a team is without 4 starting oline? A whole seconday is injured? 6 starters are out on defense? A team's starting rb, top wr, and starting TE are out (us!)? What if one team has a really capable backup qb but the next team doesn't? Some of the injury scenarios that I just laid out could be much more damaging for a team than missing a starting qb. How would the playoff committee even have the time and manpower to monitor every team's injuries in every game?

The whole thing is so absurdly subjective that it's impossible to make it even and fair across the board from team to team. And that should be the goal of the committee, applying logic that is fair to all teams. Since there's no way to make it fair and subjective they should ignore injuries altogether. Your starting qb goes out? Tough luck, that's football.

Exactly. If you don’t have adequate depth to fill in during injuries and compete on a high level, your team is not that good to begin with. So no one should get a pass.

The Clemson whining on this board is ridiculous. Wah, Wah, Wah they get a pass because they lost a game.

Then who should be ranked ahead of them? None of you answer that....why? Because you can't make a clear cut argument. You just complain for the sake of complaining.

Auburn - Has warts with 2 losses and lost to Clemson
Oklahoma - Has warts no defense and an equally bad loss to an Iowa St team at home whose Maxwell Watch Starting QB took a leave 2 days before the game.
Wisc - Has warts Schedule is no better than UCF's at this point.
Bama - Has warts.....played only 4 power 5 teams with winning records, lost to the best and struggled with the other 3 (9-3 LSU, 8-4 Miss St, 7-5 aTm).
UGA - Has warts....Wins at #15 ND and home vs Miss St....but that is it. Lost by 30+ to the best team they played.
Miami - Has warts...Has 2 wins against Power 5 teams with winning records both at home (ND and VT)

You want to know why the committee is slobbering all over Clemson it is pretty simple!

Clemson beat 4 power 5 teams with 8+ wins ON THE ROAD ALONE....as well as beating #2 Auburn at home

For Comparison road wins versus power 5 teams with 8+ wins
Auburn - 0
Oklahoma - 2
Wisc - 0
Bama - 1
UGA - 1
Miami - 0

So can any of you present a thoughtful argument at whose expense Clemson is getting a pass over?

I don’t think many disagree about Clemson being #1 at this point, but when the committee starts using excuses for them losing and not applying it in uniform throughout the teams it’s BS. They just need to come out and state the reasons you just stated about Clemson’s wins. Bringing up injuries and not giving others a break as well just sounds bad and leads to resentment

Thats fair.....but I remember at the beginning of the CFB rankings....the committee talked about those "early season wins" .....3 wins over top 15 teams (2 on the road).....that was a point of emphasis. It was talked about.

I think this is a lot like political arguments is some ways because people only hear what feeds into their confirmation bias and ignores what conflicts with that.

They should minimize subjectivity and make the process more objective.

8 team playoff. You win a Power 5 conference and you’re in. 3 at large.

When the Committee says things like, “their QB was injured, so we took that into account”, you have a problem. The criteria should be clear and objective. Win your conference and you’re in. If not, you will be subject to subjective criteria.

Nope.

“Subjective criteria” is why college football has the best regular season of any sport.
