CFB Analytics Thread 2026-27

@MiamisMoperiestMopes are you able to query your dataset as to whether there is material difference between Mensah's success rate on 3rd & 7+ (defined as a conversion or TD) starting from last year at Duke to this season to date versus the average FBS QB?

Standard AI can makes mistake disclaimer 😬

A couple things:

Wake is 15th in yards per play against FBS opponents. They've also played the 3rd (Louisville) and 5th (Miami) teams in yards per play on offense. Wake is a really good defense.

I would argue Clemson is a top 50 defense and will likely finish the season there. The LSU game really messes with their stats. Their last 4 games would have them ranked around 37th, including playing us.

Chicken or egg. Too early to tell
Also just muddied waters when isolating p4 teams whilst including total FBS statistics; as G6 teams play more G6 games. For example, Alabama was “tested,” against the 14th strongest defense, by EPA/allowed, of East Carolina.

The dataset I’m looking at has Washington State tied for the 52nd best defense via the measuring metric, so I’ll assume his set has them top 50. Washington is one of the 5 teams tested the most by facing 4 top 50 defenses up to this point, and two of them Washington State and Utah State; who Washington scored 24 and 16 points against respectively.

Utah State gave up 37 points against Boise State and 33 points against Utah. Arizona and Kansas State each scored 34 points versus Washington State.
