Looks good. Needs work in form tackling (what HS kid doesn't?). But not afraid to lay the wood. Looks explosive. ... What's the deal with Gulliver this year?

Few good players they rest aren't that good or even average
 
Kid is small... But he is an in the box safety IMO.

We got to play him downhill.. Because that kid has a feel for it... He sees ball go get ball. Kid is sniffing plays out and bringing the lumber when he gets there and he is like 5'9 185-190 doing it.

I like his game
 
I only see his highlights from his junior season.

Gulliver has been playing without Mullins (ineligible) and Burns (injured), which are their two best offensive weapons and overall players. Coaching has never been great, and even their loaded teams have been terrible at OL/DL. They haven't been bringing in kids like they always have, despite still having Sims and a bunch of coaches that have always brought in kids. There was talk in off-season about all of the good Gulliver kids transferring out. Not sure if that program is taking a different direction in football, but I find it strange that they haven't brought in a group of impressive underclassmen.


Gogeta's right. I've seen this kid live at games and 7v7 tryout's and tourneys. Good, very-instinctive football player. Plays down hill and is natural at tackling through the ball carrier, instead of catching. Shows good bend and burst when blitzing. Gulliver plays him just like a LB, but there's NO FILM of him producing in a deep shell. Not a very good athlete, but I hear that he looks faster this season. In our defense, we play a lot of 2-shell, Deon's the only safety that rolls down and either covers the slot, drops to an underneath zone or blitzes. I question his 1v1 coverage against quality receivers. I've seen him get beat deep plenty. Last year in the WC game, he got bombed with good separation by a kid (Akil Oliver) that won't be playing D1 football. In his highlights he has 1 INT as a cover-3 safety, where he doesn't show the best ball skills. I'm interested in knowing why this is his ONLY play in these highlights where he's playing as a single-high safety. Does well playing underneath as a Nickel in 7v7s, but I've never seen the 7v7 team use him in a deep shell. Seems like he would be a good star/rover, which we don't really use.

Good player, but since we don't have a specific role for him, I don't know what kind of impact he'll make. I know that he returned a KO for a TD against WC, this season. Maybe he got faster, but I'd like to see what he can do and develop in a role similar to what he'd be doing here. Will make impact in special teams and against the run. Reminds me more of Jabari Goreman (went to Pace, then UF). Hope he does well.

We need Studstill or a safety that can play single-high in this class. Next year we won't have Deon, and only Jenkins and Quan are capable of playing the single-high.

Wright definitely has more of a burst. He's faster and bigger. Crawford showed better feet and ball skills as a prospect. He was also their starting QB. He had a bunch of Int's in hs and made more plays in 1v1 coverage. At UM, Crawford impressed me with his feet as a 3rd down back and slot wr. I remember going to the spring practices in 2013, and they would roll Deon down and Dallas would destroy him on option routes. Also, against FSU, I was very impressed with his feet when he was 1v1 against Telvin Smith (probably 2013s best college LB in coverage) on an angle route. Crawford has better instincts once he gets the ball. Both have head hunter mentalities as hitters. Notice how Crawford has always been in on most of the tackles on KO team and looks like a decent player when he's going down hill. Crawford also had highlights making plays in a deep shell. Crawford's limitation is his speed and doesn't have enough of a burst coming out of his break to make up for it. On offense, you can lack a bit more of a burst on the break as long as you have quick feet, because the defender has to react to you. I think he could be a decent underneath defender in a heavy zone blitz scheme, where they pattern match.


I'd like to see how Wright has developed from last season. Unfortunately, he won't be receiving much help from his healthy and eligible teammates. I doubt they play him in a deep shell if they're lacking players. Since he's apparently racking up a high amount of tackles, they're likely using him as close to the action as possible.

Agree that we need another safety with range. I just enjoy watching Wright. He's limited but a pure football player.

I expect him to play underneath in the nickel here. They've talked about using Jaquan Johnson that way, and I see them as similar players (JJ's better).

What impresses me most about that film is that once he gets within 5 yards of someone they are down in no time. No one even has time to make a move because he explodes to the take down.

I hate seeing someone shoot a gap only to get juked or go for a fake from the qb (which seems to happen a lot when our d gets penetration). None of that with this kid.
