2027 CB Board (2027 Edition)

Our new JUCO CB has a little brother that is a rising senior. Only has two offers, Bethune cookman and Colorado state. 6’4, 190; speed in high 4.5 low 4.6s. 11.5 100m — all self reported i believe.

We are in such great shape with so many cbs and safeties that I have no idea how the staff is going to decide which 4 or 5 to take.
Every year folk on the board wonder how we're going to have room for all the recruits we're in great position for. By the end of the cycle we're sweating it out just to keep the bare minimum. LOL.

Last couple years we're casting a much wider net than previous years (especially for late risers). Difference is though we're actually competitive with more kids in a larger sample size. Net result: kids will be fighting for spots. Long way from the days when a Miami offer was a placeholder until you could get something better.

@DMoney in the 3/4 Bank

The staff would love to land a premier cornerback. They are in contact with Josh Dobson (Charlotte, NC), John Meredith III (Dallas, TX), Donte Wright (Long Beach, CA), and Gabriel Osborne (Oklahoma City, OK). One underrated name with traction: Alabama commit Nash Johnson (Atlanta, GA).

Gaby put the CB in for Sherrod Gourdine, which tells you everything you need to know about that. We already have his teammate committed in Jaylon Jones. Jaden Carey’s father was Mario’s teammate at UM.

Will Harris coached Josiah Molden’s brother at UWash; currently on the Chargers. Oregon Legacy.

Gaining traction with Alabama commit CB Nash Johnson, and going all out for then maximum pursuit of the top 15 premier cornerbacks: Long Beach-Poly duo aka UGA commit Donte Wright and Juju Johnson, Kei’Shjuan Telfair from Ohio who is considering PSU and Clemson, ATH Honor Fa’alave who they’re recruiting as a cornerback, and Joshua Dobson. They all have summer OVs setups. JMO, it appears we have the best chance with Dobson outta this group.

I kinda feel like FSU commit Mekhi Williams has the body type and pedigree they are looking for at cornerback, but he’s a safety. Maybe a position change if he wants in?

Virtually all have scheduled to UOV this spring.

I expect us to end up with 3; what do you guys think? I’d guess Carey and Gourdine then lottery luck hits on one of the premier guys. Maybe whoever our cornerbacks coach is will give us an edge.

Joshua Dobson now attends the same school as Tyree Evans however they were never teammates.

Love the Gourdine kid as our nickel in the class. We will see who else is prioritized. Db is pretty stacked this year. We should be able to walk away with at least 6 kids with big talent who are more likely to play early.

@DMoney in the March 18, 2026 Bank.

At defensive back, some names to monitor are Nash Johnson (Atlanta, GA, Alabama commit), Aamaury Fountain (Macon, GA, South Carolina commit), Zayden Gamble (STA), Gabe Osborne (Oklahoma City, OK), and Sherrod Gourdine (MacArthur). I don't see Miami pursuing KJ Caldwell (Atlanta, GA) or Larry Moon (IMG).

Could we merge this thread with the safety board thread? Por Favor?

"I don’t think Dobson is coming here. Wright is a projection based on Miami getting Oregon CB coach Rashad Wadood, which is very much on the table. Wadood is a Southern Cali native and has the Ducks in the thick of that recruitment. Shooting my shot there."

-Gaby

Wright is Donte Wright

Our staff has a chance to do something rather unique in the formulation of the DB room. Possibly have 3 pairs of teammates enter at the same time.

Redding—Wyman

Gourdine—Jones

Wright—Johnson

I was reading Dawson and Beard talk about IU’s dbs and it was clear to them that the previous experience together between Ponds & Sharpe helped them disguise, mix & match coverages so much.

Why merge it?

Every position group gets its own thread.

Really nbd tbh; my thinking was that it just seems like Hetherman and Will Harris cross train them together and have keep stating they view them as an entity together rather than separate. Fitz practicing at nickel etc.

Then, previously in the safety thread we ended up discussing them altogether when talking numbers. we get information from Gaby like the staff views Gabriel Osborne as a safety and Juju’s quote about being able to play all 5 positions and how the staff is communicating with him about that’s what they want and what they are looking for.

Still, obviously when it comes to the practicalities of it all, guys end up in different spots and not playing other spots. Not pressed over it but that was my logic/intuition when i made the comment

The only guys who get crosstrained at Safety, are the ones who were already a Hybrid Safety to begin with.

OJ hasn't taken a snap at Safety, neither has O'Connor, or Lucas, or Antoine. And among the incoming Frosh, Waters, Portis & Jennings are staying at Corner.

Its just Dunnigan & Fritz really. None of the other Safeties are getting reps at Corner & technically speaking, playing Nickel is essentially the STAR/3rd-Safety spot anyway.

Safeties and Corners are different; just like DT's & DE's are different, just like Mike's, Will's & Sam-Backers are different.

No need to muddy up the CB thread with a bunch of Safeties, they got their own thread.

I agree w/ @Memnon , the threads need to remain separate. Some of the major reasons:

  1. Each position group should have its own board.
  2. A lot of time is spent keeping the OP in each board up to date for quick access. If you merge, one of the OPs will be buried in the middle of the thread somewhere.
  3. Merging will make the boards inconsistent from a historical standpoint (older years and future years will have separate boards).

Obviously and i said as much. Center is a different from guard, guard is different from tackle; and yet OLine is altogether as one.. could say the same for playing WR in the different positions. And the LBs are altogether in the one thread so that undercuts the point you are making.

& Portis, a corner, has gotten nickel reps as has Thorton, a safety.

Again, — not pressed about it.
