Carson Beck Heisman

Beck or Jeremiah Smith would be the ideal winners since they are the biggest names

Simpson won’t hang around because of their schedule

Beck and Mendoza have the inside track there

Smith will have to go nuts but I’m sure they’re rooting for him in New York
Simpson schedule actually is his biggest benefit because he has higher chance of having people watching meaningful games if he balls out.. Especially being in a scheme where DeBoer/Grubbs put the ball in air a TON and he has weapons at wr. His offensive scheme and HC mindset to me gives him the opportunity to light it up most.

That’s a good point if he lights it up

I don’t personally think he’s good enough but you could very well be right

“What have you done for me lately” is certainly at play

They play LSU, Oklahoma (they have one of top pass defenses) but they play a team like Tenn. which can score and make it a track meet but they have 124 ranked pass defense and last in SEC in primetime.

Hope with rain season ending in miami now and still a few home games left, we take reins off Beck and let him light it up. Perfect weather tomorrow is a start and I would think Brohm and his offense forces us to let him do more.

Yeah that FSU game there was a stretch where Beck was 15-16 for over 200 yards and 4 TDs

Against a good defense

I’d like to think he can amass some pretty impressive stats but like you’re saying about Simpson there could be a wow factor there that helps him

Pretty crazy Heisman race all around to be honest. Not much as far as name power or storylines. Beck has the most compelling story and Smith is the biggest name so that’s why I tend to think they might get the most media push if they play well

i dont think they vote by region anymore (i believe thats what happened in 02 with dorsey and mcgahee)
Yeah, Dorsey and McGahee ended up splitting votes in ‘02.

Rex Grossman was also a finalist that year from UF and certainly deserved a lot of the votes he got too. It was a tough race.

Yea timing is everything, one year later and Cam would run away with it with ease.. Thats life I guess, great opportunity for Beck.

Didnt realize Beck was cooking like that until rewatch. I would think going into soft part of schedule he will be able to really do work as he has gotten more reps after missing spring and with two bye weeks he can be comfortable with new weapons and scheme.

Crazy how we are still up there and many feel like there are still roles to be filled in WR core and alot of meat on bone in passing game overall.. Bodes well with upcoming schedule and Beck chances.

I think Becks Heisman chances depend on Cristobal/Dawson letting UM finish games with some semblance of an offense. Would it mean he was racking up “garbage time” stats? To some extent, yes. But I think the Heisman committee, like AP voters, looks at the box scores. Beck is tied for 34th in TDs with 11. If UM finishes games like it starts them, he would easily have 3-4 more TDs on the season, which would put him in or near the top 10.

And yes- I understand Cristobal wants to minimize risk and when he decides UM has an insurmountable lead Dawson basically shuts down the pass game. Unfortunately I think that kneecaps Becks Heisman chances.

I also have to ask - if Miami is going to play safe and stop with the creativity on offense when it has an “insurmountable lead” like we supposedly did against FSU, why keep Beck in the game at all? It makes him look ineffectual towards the end of games and risks injury. I guess the idea is keeping him in makes the defense have to still think about the pass game, but it doesn’t. They know Miami isn’t throwing when it’s up by 2 TDs going in the 4th quarter. So I don’t see the risk-reward being worth it. Either continue trying to score points with Beck in the game or put in the backup to avoid injury.

A respected poster here said he felt Dawson was more culpable than Cristobal. Cristobal wants the offense to go a little more conservative to avoid turnovers when we have a lead (makes sense) , but Dawson has been interpreting that as “use only run plays from Tecmo Bowl in the 4th quarter.” I would like to see Dawson let Beck put up some bonus stats when we are up on Louisville by 21+ in the 3rd quarter to give his Heisman chances a boost.

He isn't winning the Heisman unless he averages at least 3 TDs per game over remaining 7, only picks up like 3-4 more turnovers max, we win out, and no other QB on a championship level team goes off. I mean the latter seems possible.

I also don't expect him to have any "Heisman moment".

This right here.
We’re going to have to go undefined and beat the crap out of some teams for him to win it and that’s just not who we’ve shown to be this far.
We’ve got a chance to flex the next few weeks, assuming the SMU game gets picked up. We’ll see.

If Beck was still dating Twin, he'd have a better shot of winning the Heisman. TV would have busted a nut waiting to get Twin on live tv. Dumping her was a terrible business decision. It reminds me of the time that I dated the HS homecoming queen, Courtney Davis. We dated during the summer cause I had my eye on the HC king crown in October. I knew I had a better chance of winning if I kept that smoke show around. Remained in a relationship with her through homecoming weekend. Got crowned king and queen of the HC, then dumped her for a fat cow who put out.

Long story short. Beck should have kept Twin to increase heisman odds.

Late entry for post of the year.

He's on pace for these numbers:

265/361 (73.4%), 3,153 yards, 29 TDs, 8 INTs

That's *probably* not enough to win the Heisman, but two things:

1. We don't know what the competition will look like at the end of the year
2. He has played the hardest schedule in the country to date, with several of those games in the rain

At the current pace, he's probably not going to get there. However, if we actually play the last 7 games in good weather, we know the competition is going to get much easier. If he can get to maybe 35 TDs and closer to 3500 yards, he can definitely win it, if we go undefeated.

Remember, this was Cam, in 12 games. I did Beck's pace off 13 games:

293/435 (67.3%), 4,123 yards, 36 TDs, 7 INTs, also 204 yards and 4 TDs rushing.

And that wasn't nearly good enough to win it. But, we lost 2 games.

Beck has a shot, but only if we go undefeated, and only if he picks up the pace a little bit. He needs to have a couple 300+ yard games with 3+ TDs here going forward. And keep winning.

A 13-0 QB with those numbers will be hard to beat.
Two things. If Can went 12-0 he would have won the Heisman. Second, there’s not really anyone putting up ridiculous numbers this year. At least not for a contender. That and there’s no freak of nature two way player this year either. So while Beck isn’t putting up mind blowing stats, he’s right on par numerically with most of his quarterback competition for the trophy.

Could we maybe pad his stats a little in the coming weeks? Maybe let him throw an extra touchdown in a game where we’re already up three touchdowns? Or give him an extra series or two against a bottom feeder? It’s possible
