Carolina Panthers S Tre Boston on Butch Davis..

Don't you just love anecdotes?

I wonder what Cardale Jones has to say about Herman? Or Ginger Dalton about Fuente? Do you think Mariota likes Chip Kelly?

Or better yet, let's rehire Al b/c Mo Wilkerson loved him!
WTF have any of them won? All you hataz can GTFO

Chip Kelly won more BCS bowls than Butch did. Herman won a national title as a coordinator. Fuente has had more 10+ win seasons than Butch, and he's only been a head coach for 4 years.

Not sure if you realize this, but Butch doesn't have a ring as HC either.

Is Butch Davis a candidate for USCw, USCe, Illinois, VaTech, Missouri, or any other opening besides Miami?

If he isn't, what do these other schools know that Miami doesn't?

Same reason we're not talking about a number of coaches.

Availability.

Some coaches are a waste of time asking about as they're NOT coming to a particular location.

Butch Davis is not available to USCe. Butch Davis is not available to Missouri. Butch Davis is not available to Virginia Tech. Butch Davis is not available to USCw.

He has money, he's doing good on ESPN, and there's one thing on his bucket list - winning a National Championship at UM.

Unfinished business.

TRUTH

What was Butch's ACC record at UNC?

Who cares? This is the U.

And the U deserves a coach who does more than get kids into the NFL. We've done that. We have more NFL kids on our teams than wins. I'm all set on that. I'd like to win on Saturdays for a change.

Butch built a team that won 34 straight at Miami. That's a lot of wins on Saturdays.

Listen, I want a thorough search as much as anyone but you'd think Butch is Al Golden the way posters are crushing him on here.

This is quite silly. you could ask this with plenty of hires throughout sports, every year.

Do you really think not one school has contacted Butch Davis? Do you honestly think if he actually sold himself for any of those positions like he has done for miami they wouldn't hire him?

If Butch told Illinois he wanted to coach there... he wouldn't get the job? or an interview?

you know you don't believe that! Furthermore, there is obviously a lot that goes into college football(especially hiring a coach) in each little town and each big city. Sometimes its safer to get someone who understands what the **** hes working with.. or at least intelligent enough to adapt. Some coaches wont coach in certain places and would rather not coach at all than settle for coaching at...... Western kentucky

What's the success rate for retread coaches that return to a school they previously coached at?

But he didn't win 34 straight. Let's see how we can play this game with other names:

Ron Zook built the team that Urban won with.
Luke Fickle built the team he won with again.
Black Santa built the team Big Game Bob won with.

We can play this game all day.

My guess is very poor with some rare exceptions. It rarely ever works.

Named Butch Davis? You're about to find out.

Too bad for you. I hope his hire makes you one miserable SOB.

Isn't it a pity that you'll have some new statistics in a couple years from now?

You're about to see one of those rare exceptions.

How many 10+ win seasons does Butch have in 10 years as a college coach?

How many does any of our other candidates have?

Chip Kelly has a bunch. Tom Herman will have as many as Butch after 1 year. Fuente has one already, probably will get to 2 this year, after 4 years as HC. Mike Gundy has 3, and will be adding his 4th this year. Chuck Pagano has 3.

Any questions?

-Herman/Fuente ain't in the P-5...unless you want to pull up a bunch of FCS coaches with undefeated seasons and championship rings and claim they are better than Davis.
-Chip Kelly isn't a candidate that has been mentioned outside of the media and fans, if that's the case at least bring up Gary Patterson.
-Chuck Pagano was never a college HC.
-Mike Gundy is the only one on your list.

Also yes, I do have a question, do you want 10 win seasons or rings?
How many players have they put in the NFL?

This has already been discussed. There are very few examples.

Keep guessing. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Charlie Weis, Mark Mangino, Lane Kiffin, Mike Leach, and Greg Schiano all have the same number of 10+ win seasons as Butch Davis.

Although I'm "B.B.B", I have some buyers remorse with Butch... and prefer Tom "**** *****es, get money" Herman. But, anyone that credits those wins to Coker instead of Butch is too busy trying to be right instead of looking at things honestly. Butch assembled the greatest team in NCAA history and a pretty good staff as well. Can he do it again.. **** NO! But, I think he still has a lot left and whats possible with him as our HC is still pretty exciting.
