CanesInSight Daily: Previewing Miami’s NEW LOOK at LB!

I agree, the depth is starting to look good

MLB
Mohamed Toure RSR 6-2 236
Chase Smith RSR 6-2 230
PoPo Aguirre JR 6-2 233
Adarius Hayes SO 6-4 240

WILL
Wesley Bissainthe SR 6-1 230
Jaylin Alderman RSR 6-1 230
Kamal Bonner RSO 6-2 220
Kellen Wiley FR 6-4 240

Star/ SAM / Big Nickel (Think striker under Manny)
Bobby Pruitt SO 6-2 215
Bobby Washington RSO 6-3 230

Ezekiel Marcelin isn’t listed because I believe he will redshirt.
Am I misremembering or didn't Bobby Washington post that he had pretty serious knee surgery after the season ended? Is he healthy enough to be part of the projected depth chart?

YouTube engagement optimization tends to cause content creators to put striking/intense-looking human faces in the video thumbnails.

Now it seems like nearly every defense-oriented CIS video has Hetherman's psychotic smile from his intro presser. Well done.

In an interview with Cane podcaster 50, Cam Pruitt stated that Bobby has fully participated in all offseason workouts. I’m not sure if he will be healthy or not, but seems to be a chance he could be back at some point this season.

Yes he does, it’s called STAR in his defense. I just mentioned the term striker so it can be understood by people here.

I have studied Hetherman’s defense inside and out. He actually used two nickels one for coverage and the other in run support. If you watch the USC game, a more pass heavy team, you will see more of the traditional nickel but in the Penn State game, a more run heavy team he used the big nickel (Star)

See the image below #20 is Jeff Roberson he is 6-2 230 listed as LB on Minnesota official roster but he plays Star, nothing more than a big nickel or striker.

Watch the way he is used against Penn State

Here is Hetherman using the more traditional nickel #24

He definitely has some big boys on the D line

Seems like a lot of people were off about him. He was a blue chip recruit and a consensus top 20 linebacker across multiple sites. I’m curious to see what he could do this year in the new system
As far as a new system goes, I believe this will be his third defensive coordinator and it’s more than likely we’ve been saying the same thing about Wes is gonna eat in a new scheme

Sometimes it’s just a player

The length (pause) played a big part in their ability to be so disruptive.

Here is how I see Miami players in those spots. I think Bain, Blount, and Scott will play multiple positions on the d line.

SDE
Akheem Mesidor RSR 6-3 260
Malik Bryant RSO 6-2 240
Marquise Lightfoot RFR 6-5 240
Booker Pickett RFR 6-4 230

TACKEL
Ahmad Moten RJR 6-3 305
Rueben Bain JR 6-3 275
Armondo Blount SO 6-4 270
Justin Scott SO 6-4 290

NOSE
David Blay RSR 6-4 304
Justin Scott SO 6-4 290
Artavius Jones RFR 6-3 310
Donta Simpson FR 6-3 300

RUSH
Rueben Bain JR 6-3 275
Armondo Blount SO 6-4 270
Cole McConathy RFR 6-5 260
Hayden Lowe FR 6-5 260

Awesome, I must have missed that interview. That combination of size + speed is rare, even for big time college football. Hopefully Heatherman has a plan in place to take advantage.

You do know that Roberson just transferred to Minnesota from oklahoma st so he never played in hetherman defense right? Hetherman likes to use actual DBs with size at nickel. Such as the image you showed is jack Henderson wearing #20 who is a 6’2 210 SS. If the safety from Houston would’ve came he would have been at nickel
