What I love is the depth. I hope we rotate a lot to keep guys fresh and minimize injury. Toure is legit,

That’s my thing. When he’s healthy they don’t play him a lot. The coaches see him in practice and they know best. And if he ain’t playing (like pancake) then you probably not HIM.
But I like Bobby and Pancake, really good players you don’t want to play unless there is an injury. At least you know they have talent. They may not be stars but they have talent. Which is a good thing all good teams have that.
Let’s not lie to ourselves. This unit, much like the safety unit, is completely reliant on the success and health of our D Line. I think we may have some guys in the room but not quite as a whole. I have seen too much “death by yards-after-contact” for a lifetime.
Bobby wasn’t playing because supposedly he wasn’t understanding the defense. Him and pancake was both raw coming out of hs. The have all the traits you want to be stars. Wether they ever get to that point or even be starters here is still tbd
I understand in CIS world if a player isn’t an ALL American by his redshirt freshman season, then that player is a JAG and needs to hit the portal. It just blows my mind how the statements are made from guys who have never been to a practice, had a conversation with anyone on the Miami staff, and has only watched 3 minutes of the kids JR year high school highlights
Players breakout later, in their careers, in new schemes all the time. Look no further than Brashard Smith. As a redshirt sophomore at Miami, Smith had 22 receptions for 263 yards and 2 TDs, 9 carries for 132 rushing yards and 1 TD. As a redshirt JR at SMU when put in a scheme that better fit his skill set as an APB, he thrived. There he rushed for 1,332 yards, 14 TDs, 39 catches for 327 yards and 4 TDs earning 1st team ALL ACC and 3rd team ALL American. So at Miami he was a JAG and at SMU he was an All American, was it the player or the scheme and coaching
How can you judge if a player will ever play when that player has yet to practice a down in the new scheme due to injury? What metrics are you using to make such an absolute determination? Is the thought that players don’t recover from injury or is it more of a new shinny toy on the roster so let’s disregard the old one?
If your talking about how it “supposed” to look, there is not a single player on this roster with Bobby’s combination of size (6-3 230,) speed (runs in the high 4.3 - min 4.4 range) hit power, and ability to rush the passer. Bobby has it all from a traits standpoint, he just couldn’t fully pick up Guidry’s system (like so many other guys on defense). Hetherman’s simple, fast, and aggressive scheme fits his skill set.
I am not saying he will be a starter, I’m saying I don’t think it’s time to write him off. At the end of the day, the beauty of competition is the winner is determined by the ones who are competing and not the ones on the sideline talking.

That’s a real depth chart. Remember when we trotted out the three freshmen LBs (Shaq, Pinck and McCloud) because both the projected starters were injured and we had no one else good enough to play?
The only thing missing is while the floor is really high the ceiling still a little low. Toure and Wiley, maybe Wes can have a breakthrough season. He’ll maybe Chase can finally perform up to his pre injury potential and have an Arroyo like comeback.
I gotta say, I am completely shocked the "pause" guy didn't immediately report to this post...............pleasantly surprised really.

This is fair especially with a new scheme. Also BS didn’t touch the ball here and moved to RB where you touch it more, that to me is way different. But he did improve because he got the ball more often. Would have cooked with Ward here. Hetherman doesn’t use a striker. Bobby is playing Mike & Will and pruitt is playing will
Yes he does, it’s called STAR in his defense. I just mentioned the term striker so it can be understood by people here.
I have studied Hetherman’s defense inside and out. He actually used two nickels one for coverage and the other in run support. If you watch the USC game, a more pass heavy team, you will see more of the traditional nickel but in the Penn State game, a more run heavy team he used the big nickel (Star)
See the image below #20 is Jeff Roberson he is 6-2 230 listed as LB on Minnesota official roster but he plays Star, nothing more than a big nickel or striker.

I think anything is possible in this new scheme it is simply designed for LBs to be successful and put up high tackle numbers. I have been beating the table about this for months but every where Hetherman has coached linebackers, he has turned at least one into an ALL Conference play in his first season, and it has always been a guy who has never been an All Conference player. So if history repeats itself someone is going to have a breakout season in this system.

You really wanna know when Miami is back ? It’s when players like Wes plays the way he does “ below average to average” and loses his spot to a better player
I agree that if you are below average you shouldn’t play. My only stance on Wes is, we simply do not know how he plays in this new system that is historically LB friendly. The issue with Wes is not missed tackles, his issue was being out of place, that’s scheme and coaching.
So logic tells me that if you put an good tackler in a linebacker friendly system, where he can just play see ball get ball, you can expect a completely different outcome. I just can’t understand how you can write anyone on this defense off, based off what they put on tape last season. Now if he gets in camp and someone beats him out, well put his *** on the bench, just that simple.
Seems like a lot of people were off about him. He was a blue chip recruit and a consensus top 20 linebacker across multiple sites. I’m curious to see what he could do this year in the new system
