In 2020.

thats right, folks. Blake Baker had the 4th most TFL in the nation this year. So what does it mean?

It means the stat nerd HC’s entire philosophy about defense is wrong. His entire thesis is that TFL leads to stops. Leads to great defense. Leads to wins.

It doesnt. Its a cherrypicked stat that happens to be a feature his gimmick scheme excels at. Thats all.

TFLs don’t mean much when you keep giving up 1st Downs on 3rd and 15 or when you try for 1 and watch the RB blow by and rip off huge chunks at a time. Those stats look good on paper but the goal is still to stop the other team from getting 10 yards from scrimmage every 4 plays.

It means we spend all our time in the back field usually behind the actual run play that went for 20 yards. Occasionally we run into the guy. Problem is when the plays happen. For every tackle for loss on 2nd down, there is a 20 yard gash on 3rd down.

i think you hit it on the head, which is why i'm not as bummed as some about manny taking over the defense ... first of all i appreciate the bet on yourself attitude, secondly if trob is what everyone says he is and his preferred sytle is bump and run, well that works almost perfectly for a defense that likes to get to the qb, vs giving up this easy completions because we're 7 yards off the ball
 
Good to hear Blake Dnofrios genius kept Ranked teams to only 47.5 points per game. Even Manny Golden couldn’t make an adjustment to prevent the worst single game rush D in history. Not bad, the worst ever

Please read above @Go Canes!! and any other sunshine pumper. This is the truth of the scheme which is why all these “really cool stats bro” don’t lead to wins.
