Was a smart play. Other team touched the ball, so receiving team can pick it up and isn’t a fumble if he drops it.

It was actually smart, if the defender touches the ball you can’t muff a punt anymore so trying to pick it up is a win win. If you fumble you still maintain possession and if you house it, great job
