Canes Spring Practice Report: April 4

People are still giving O’Connor **** for that last game, but he was our best cover guy at times throughout the year. AND his best ability… Availability!

My take on the ship is that it’s on the coaches! We were stopping their run game with just our front 7. We should have had our corners shade outside PERIOD! Take away what Indiana does best is throw those back shoulder throws. Force EVERY throw towards the middle of the field where our safeties and nickel have accumulated nearly 20 ints on the year. We were hardly beaten deep near the middle of the field on the year. Force Indiana to play a completely different game than the game planned for!
Agreed I think O’Conner is a dawg and Sarratt was just also a beast

You trippin. Jakobe thomas was our glue. That's not taking anything away from the other three. But bryce proved he can fill the position worst case and we recruit at a high level on Edge and oline. Safety we gonna have to see. Thornton looks like he's gonna take nickel more than likely. No clue who's gonna play strong cause potser definitely can't and neither can bryce. Don't think Thornton has the range for it.
You think maybe the freshman Dunnigan can pull it off?

Has SJ just had a hard time putting on weight?

I know he still has plenty of time to develop, I just thought he was going to come in and be Kevin Mawae on day 1
Kevin Mawae wasn’t Kevin Mawae from day 1 lol. He redshirted at LSU as a true freshman in 1989, he also played his full NFL career at 6-4 between 280 - 290 and SJ is listed at 6-2 290 currently (so I assume he is actually 6-1, 275 - 280). At this point in his career SJ has more experience than Mawae at the same stage.

The question of the program. Who are the killers in defense? Asking a lot to replace the edge and mentality of 0, 3,4 & 8. If we can do that the sky is truly the limit
Toure, Moten, Thornton, Hussey, Lightfoot, JJ, Blount, and Lowe are all those type of players. Outside of Bain, at this time last year, no one was calling the guys on this list killers lol.

0 - had just transferred to Houston after being benched at Auburn the season before
3 - coming off a up and down season playing out of position, most here wanted him benched for Lightfoot
8 - was running with the 2nd team, competing to be a starter at Tennessee, was considered a liability in coverage and a reckless hitter that would be a walking targeting penalty.

We have to start giving this staff credit for how they develop, I know there was a time when Miami was a place where players flashed as freshman to never be as successful again. Those days are over guys, this defense will be better this season than last seasons.

I don't wanna try and find out. Like I told y'all two seasons ago, for me safety is more essential than corner. Depends on your scheme obviously. But 8 out of 10 defenses find far more importance from the safety position than they do corner in college.

Just got back from dinner with my cousin. He is an ACC ref who was there today for the spring practice to referee. From what he saw he said Mensah looked great, Our RBs still have a lot of juice. The D line is still big as ****. The only thing he said that looked concerning was the Oline. He said that they were a young unit that made some mistakes during his time watching them.
Woah, woah, woah, way to bury the lede.

Your cousin is an ACC ref?!?!?

Safety is more important than Corner, huh?

I'll add that to my list, trying to work out who the f' you are. ;)

Poyser played strong safety a lot too. He wasn’t always the deep man. Played in the box quite a bit. And it’s what he played at Jax State. He wasn’t always coming up and laying the lumber!
