'Canes Scouting Reports from NFL.com

So not one player on our defense is even projected to be drafted????

Wait wait where are the following
DT Renfrow
DT Porter
DT Robinson
DE Green
DE Gilbert
LB Gaines
LB Cornelius
DB Rodgers
DB Highsmith

SCHEME SCHEME SCHEME sucks lol

Add to that one 6th round CB in McGee being drafted last year and the 2012 defense really was devoid of veteran talent.
But yeah, if Golden would have implemented the 4-3 cover 2 things would have been better. GTFOH.

And how about these guys:

Kevin Nelson
Keion Payne
Devont'a Davis
Delmar Taylor
Jeffrey Brown
Kelvin Cain
David Perry
Tavadis Glenn
Jeremy Davis
Travis Williams
Latwan Anderson

I've been saying it for three years: the 2010 class was very good on offense and catastrophic on defense. It was obvious by the end of their first year.

That's why our offense was good (16th in the nation in yards per play) and the defense was an abomination. It all comes back to recruiting.

SCHEME SCHEME SCHEME sucks lol

Where are Duke players? One massive 5 or 6th round CB. No one from their great offense that No D couldnt stop. smh Scheme scheme suck lol

they almost beat manziel.

meanwhile we played them with our horrible D yes. But everyone forgets Duke and Dorsett were out that game. Duke injury was a game changer for the offense.

man quit with the excuses. They shut down VT who gashed the **** out of us with their one solid 6th round CB. Good job. While we complain. They whole team have one draftable prospect yet they were able to play for the ACC title. We are left with a bunch of excuses smh.

SCHEME SCHEME SCHEME sucks lol

Your point is irrelevant when the point about the scheme is comparing our team against other teams that lack talent.

It makes me laugh when these guys keep talking about our talent, but neglect to mention the talent of the other teams. Those guys on the other team are not more talented from day 1, they are just flat out coached better,

This is the Golden gang logic. Compare our Roster to BCS bowl team's yet have no explanation to the annihilation by mediocre teams and ACC bottom dwellers. Miami have more draftable players than teams with way better quality records. Just not adding up here.

which teams were those?

Punters dont get drafted anymore, since the NFL went to a 7 round draft. That said, it would not surprise me if Pat O'Donnell is the best punter in the NRL in the next couple years. He's that good IMO.

I don't understand why it has to be 'the players' or 'the scheme' when it's pretty obvious it was both. Coaches were obviously trying to do too much with too little.

Incredible how Randy makes an effort to recruit guys like Linder and Seantrel, and then hires zone blocking coordinators. Then Al Golden comes in and proceeds to continue this trend of utter stupidity, and our OL is mysteriously terrible.

This. But I would add that I think the coaching staff couldn't wait any longer to implement the defense they are looking to run due to them not having the full complement of players needed. They had to take their lumps at some point at the expense of bad results. Mix all this up and you get what you got.

So it's your belief that the coaching staff knowingly implemented a defense they didn't have the personnel base for?

The talent base of the senior defensive class is the worse I've seen in my 29 years of being a canes fan. And one of my biggest gripes were that players like Highsmith, Gaines and Cornelius were terrible and did not fit into our future plans but got so many reps. A Jamal Carter should have been given Highsmith's reps, a Kirby given Gaines reps and Grace given Cornelius reps. Now those young players may not have been ready, and could have given up the over 500 a game too but they sure as **** have more upside and future potential in a canes uniform and could have gotten key development that would helps us this year...smh

I hear you. If you want to fault Al on something fault him on being to loyal.
I understand why he was and respect it. But there's a fine line between loyalty and it being a bad decision.
This year will show if it was or wasn't.

Golden has no loyalty to those players. In order for one to think that way one would have to believe that there are better options on the bench. If that's your line of thinking then it can be said you think Golden is a fool. Either golden knows what he's doing or he doesn't.

Al apologist are out in full force. Gosh man you guys are sensitive and go to great lengths to defend AL golden. I thought it was lack of talent for the last 2 years until after VT game. Guys wake up and quit your *****ing. You can like AL golden and admit the defensive scheme sucks. We have up 500 yards to Duke, VT and Bridgewater set a career record for passing yard agaisnt us. You know how many bottom feeders he played with less talent that he didn't light up like that, how about Cincy and Uconn just to start. So if you guys insist on telling yourself that Uconn, Duke, Cincy and the like have more talent than us then keep riding blindly into the night. But it's both with a majority of the blame on scheme for not adapting to players and running a scheme that really doesn't work in college.
