Canes putting focus on S Gilbert

Hey! Look what I found! The 1994 team that lost to Nebraska. Guess how many kids weren’t from SFL? 50!

Yup, 50 players weren’t from SFL.

So they came when the program was under sanctions because HUDL didn’t exist and won championships 8-10 years ago? When these dudes came from towns that sniffed Alabama and UF football like a rich white guy in front of a coke pile?

Yes, it would be much more difficult to sign Ed Reed and Reggie Wayne today.

The kids we’ve signed from Louisiana are Derron Thomas, Jacoby Briscoe and Stan Dobard. It’s difficult.

We recruited this kid last year. His name was Daran Branch.

The danger of spending too much time in SEC country is that the good ones get snatched.

When it comes to the blue chip recruits, South Florida is $ec country.

We had won 4 championships in those kids lifetimes. And the SEC wasn’t the center of college football. Plus, it was easier to keep players hidden without HUDL.
Got it so winning has a huge impact on recruiting in state and out...

Shocking!

Can’t have crap seasons back to back and expect to pull 5stars at home or 3/4star mid range SEC kids abroad that can probably be great starters

Thanks Dmoney

Yep.
The SEC didn’t truly become like this until football essentially became the only entertainment America cared about starting in the late ‘90s. Then the ungodly amount of southern money followed. And the SEC took off. And at that point kids stopped leaving to go to the Nebraskas and Colorados of the world. They might leave their state, but they don’t leave “the south.”

LSU has two safeties committed. Dakota Mitchell and Khari Gee. Both are 3 stars though so they may be looking to upgrade later on in the process.

Edit: Gee is a low 4 star

They might off, but they also might not...

They already have Dakota Mitchell from Orlando & just got a commitment from Khari Gee from Georgia yesterday.

The other Safeties they're after are, Sage Ryan from Lafayette, Kendal Daniels from Oklahoma, Tysheem Johnson from Philly & possibly Kamren Kinchens (although I believe Gee got his spot already).

They already let Kaine Williams from Marrero go to Bama & last year they took Jordan Toles from St. Frances Academy in BMore & all their CB's from last year were from TX & Cali.

People always assume they're just going to take all the local kids, but after you win a Natty most programs expand & go national. Lots of local Louisiana prospects are not a take for LSU unless they're upper echelon 4/5-stars.
Sage Ryan isn't going to play Safety in college.. This kid is a playmaker, but he does hit too.. His size just makes me think he would be suited for offense..

Here's the comments today from LSU reporter:

Busch talks to Gilbert daily, per Gilbert.
I think for LSU it was a matter of when you offer a Baton Rouge kid who goes to school on campus, you have to be ready to take his commitment.

They were hoping to see him in spring ball or get him to camp since last summer he didn't camp at LSU as he recovered from injury.

I won't be surprised that with Gee and Mitchell on board if they don't feel out the other national guys and make a move sooner than later on offering Gilbert, especially knowing you also have Sage Ryan in-state who can definitely play safety if that's where you want to put him.

There is similar discussion about Malik Nabers. They have guys ahead of him, too.

Well keep hounding him down and show him how much he would be a focal point of the secondary class next to Avante

When did Curtis Johnson join the staff? He was a difference maker in Louisiana recruiting.

Lot of mediocre O-O-S players on that list. Some mediocre instate, too. I don't think Dennis Erickson had a lot of great recruiters on staff.

This make a lot of sense, I’d still be expecting a offer from LSU close to signing day unless they hit on other targets.
