Canes Overcome Hangover.. My thoughts on the UVA win...

I think they need to shelve the FB at the goal line play, until they get a FB. Going do thing is, they're set up to run a naked boy to off it, now that it's failed so often.

Did anyone else not see PI on the first rosier pick? Thomas arm was held down and could not make a play on the ball.

No special team recap? Abysmal. Special teams basically aided two of their TDs. I'm tired of coach Hartleys unit. 2 years straight and we look like **** week in and week out. 10th coach needs to be a dedicated STC

OH, trust me, it's bad, no sugar coating it. Every unit basically had some sort of breakdown today of some sort. And it's not an isolated incident. But again, its something that I hope will improve with more quality athletes being added to the roster. I still dont like having guys like Homer out there on the ST units based on the RB depth

I think Feagles finally had a good game though

Deejay Dallas is making a huge difference.

Hes been impossible to bring down at first contact.

I think he might be stronger at a standstill than Homer. Once Homer gets moving people just bounce off of him though. Deejay has a huge future in front of him.

Nice Whitaker-Chavez reference as well.

Chavez-Whitaker is the one time I swore off boxing - that lasted for a week, lol

Yep, I saw it. Replayed it several times. The CB pinned Thomas’ right arm which turned him away from the pass and enabled the tip. It was blatantly obvious.

I’m still mad about Chavez-Meldrick Taylor

Couple things, if the FB package isn’t working (which it hasn’t) shelve it. Oline doesn’t get much push till late in home games for the most part. Teams aren’t going to wear down in colder climates.

This^^^. On one play, the FB just stood there and barely touched a UVA player. He's 240 lbs. Go hit someone when you're in there on a critical short yardage play.

Excellent summary. I would add our special teams are atrociously coached. We lucked out on the onside kick, had a punt blocked, ran into the kicker, missed an extra point, kicked a kickoff out of bounds, and fielded a punt inside the 5 in crunch time, then had too many 4's on the field. This has a been a consistent theme all year. Hartley is not cutting it with special teams.

I like Hartley. However special teams has been subpar both years, would love to see them hire thst extra coach and let Hartley focus on ST or TE as opposed to coaching both.
It should not be an unmanageable task to handle both, especially when you consider the exceedingly limited role of TE's in this offense. Fact is, I can't really think of what Hartley is good at. Can someone enlighten me?

Didn't he shank one? I'm not holding the block against him, but I wasn't overly impressed.

It is jarring to see how we keep going back to this completely dry well. Not sure if it is just out of stubbornness or a lack of imagination, but the short yardage play-calling time again winds up getting negative yardage.

Wanna know how bad a pi it was. Thomas still couldn't put his arm to ask for a p.i. the dam dB was still holding his arm

We won't blow out teams consistently until we get better offensive lineman and a full back

Richt has done a phenomenal job calling plays with a shaky qb and no push up front

About the I formation plays..

We lack creativity in play calling with it.
2.) We have ol that literally pass up dine man in routes to linebackers. For example..dt is lightly shaded to gauthiers outsidea shoulder, darling literally taps the guy shoulder as he is high tailing it outside to god knows what..when he could of doubled and helped Gauthier who got pushed back into the hole. In short yardage we continuously do this..Searles needs to tighten that sh-t up.
3.) Can we run a sweep to get our guys outside, can we motion out of it or shift, change the snap count. I mean gives your guys an advantage, not tighten it up in iform

For anybody who was paying close attention how did deandre wilder do? Was at the game and didn't pay much attention to him. Obviously he didn't really make any plays but was he in good position a lot and how did he do filling in for perry?

Last week he got shook out of his shoes on one play out in the flat, this week he looked much better in limited time

Great summary, k9. Thank you.

The team is human after all, and following 2 elite, emotional efforts against VT and ND, I am not surprised we came out slow. You can talk up that risk until you're blue in the face, but it happens all the time in college football.

I think you have to give UVA credit. The energy that they came out with was palatable, and to some extent you knew you just had to withstand it. Their QB was like 18/19 to start the game. They hit us on some things that honestly, I was surprised others hadn't really been able to, but you give enough opponents a chance, eventually someone breaks through. Credit to their staff that was a great game plan, especially offensively. It would have been great to match that energy and hit back with a vengeance but it just wasn't going to happen.

Special teams is where I think the lack of depth really shows up. Hopefully with another recruiting class or two, the tide will turn and we can do better in the hidden yards department.

Please dear G-d, there has to be something we can do in the red zone to get Malik out of the pocket, Herndon involved, etc. I don't know, naked bootlegs, TE shovel passes, something to pop one in other than a QB draw.

As we sit here at 10-0 with an Orange Bowl appearance as our downside, I think you have to give a lot of credit to this staff. We've accomplished this with a QB that the HC himself never thought would play, our best WR hobbled, our starting RB out for the season, a full turnover of the secondary (or very near it), etc. Despite all that, they have us sitting undefeated. They've made it work. Heaven help this conference when they have the pieces they want 2 deep at all spots, but I don't want to really look ahead. 1) I take nothing for granted and 2) there is something about this team, I just get the feeling their best moment is still ahead of them...

It's great to be a Miami Hurricane

It's easy to pick the play apart now, but I have no idea why a slow dude like that is expected to pull across the line and be effective. Play looked awful in design and execution.

Simply, I still remember a UM team in 91 that won the title, having a huge letdown at BC after Wide Right I, against an Eagles team that was well below .500 in Coughlin's first year at Chestnut Hill. Barely scrapped by, in fact It happens. There's no other sport where emotion is so important quite like college football, IMO. You literally dont know what team you might get from week to week

- another note, Mike Harley's blocking continues to impress. Once again you see him downfield on big plays just battling defensive backs and paving the way for yardage. He really is one of those guys where the box-score wont necessarily tell you his value to a team
