Ok, so I had to get to the fights on ESPN(Stevenson-Herring) after the game last night. So some quick early morning thoughts on the victory over NCState....

- The end of the first half -- on both offense and defense -- was mind-boggling to me. No urgency when we had the ball, then we have a defensive break down and call a TO(when the Pack had none) that helped them re-set their offense for what would be a TD. Announcer at the national level hate to really be critical of coaches, but I give Golic Jr credit, he flat out called that stuff out. It was THAT bad

That was world-class corching

Honestly, for an 'analytics guy', you dont expect stuff like this to happen.

- Again, young players flashed a lot. James Williams is a real talent. He should never come off the field, I'll live with his mistakes

- Rooster needs at least 15-20 touches of some sort every game. And not with inside runs, that's not his game and quite frankly, we dont block well upfront. But get him down the seam, into the flat, quick tosses, screens, jet screens, end-arounds -- things of that nature. He brings an electricity to this offense. But with that said, all that grinding stuff up the middle, let Cody Brown and Thad Frankling get some burn in these roles

But I'll say it again, Knighton should be the foundation of this offense.

- Where is Brashard Smith? Again, IMO, we are playing with fire when you sit some obviously talented players in the era of the transfer portal

- I thought we played pretty physical upfront defensively. Overall, the tackling was better. But lets be honest, Devin Carter (88) for NCState should be investigated for point shaving. He helped out a LOT. Two really huge drops last night

- TVD had another strong game, he can play. Not sure if he's a perfect fit for what Lashlee wants, but the kid delivered, and seems to be getting better. I think the TVD vs Jake battle next spring will be very interesting.

- OK, now some will point to this as a defense of Manny Diaz, that hey, this is a good team. That if not for a play here or there, or a kick that goes a few inches to the other side, that they are 3-0 in ACC play. Alright, I look at it differently, that with better coaching and leadership, those games are more definitive wins, or wins bottom line. To me, this doesn't lower the temperature on his hot seat. Bottom line, these are games he is supposed to win

Diaz can't have it both ways. Say that he has a good football team in his lockerroom(which I agree with for the most part) and then have a losing record while in the ACC Coasta.

Now, we go into Pitt. And if they are reasonably healthy (I know they had some key playmakers knocked out vs Clemson yesterday) the Panthers are a team we will have issues with. And now they have some real momentum and confidence, and we never react well in weather below 80 degrees.

Lets see what happens there

I won’t be surprised if Miami beats Pitt tbh.

Agree with most of your thoughts here.

Also I will be excited to see the Garcia/TVD spring battle.

Our fans turn on QB recruits.

But we been doing well with our Cali QBs we've recruited Kaaya to Matt Corrall, to hopefully Garcia.

Beat Pitt, enough said, LFG

Knighton played the majority of the game - posters were both complaining when he was out and also that he was still in.

Williams also played the majority of the game. Williams #15 also played some snaps - people *****ed about him being in at the end of the first half TD.

Drops are part of the game. Count the ones we dropped this season (Mallory TD against MSU, Brinson 3rd down late against UVA, etc etc etc) and we are potentially in a different spot. The one drop Stevenson came up lame which is why he was so open.

No one here said the game changes whether manny should be fired or not. Actually people keep repeatedly yelling about the opposite arguing against nothing.

I’m not sure it is about having it both ways - he is giving his team in the lockerroom credit saying they are a good team - the record shows that good team did not win enough games - hopefully he’ll be held accountable for that. He gave a nod to the team and players after the game when asked about his critics saying it isn’t about them it is about the message to the team that their work was rewarded with a win last night.

Glad we got the win. Manny and Blake still need to be replaced.

We are one long snapper losing his helmet away from losing this game. Well coached teams are the difference between these one score games and our record is indicative of that. You’re right manny can’t have it both ways that’s why I feel zero sympathy for this guy.

Watching jacolby George go out there again after that candy necklace iq of a punt return is just manny’s career summed up here.

Happy for the win and for the kids but let’s just rip this band aid off this infected wound.

This team can't eve get a loss when the fans need one.

I am super happy for the players. But NC State is overrated and mediocre just like the rest of the ACC. I can't get too excited about a 1-game win over an opposing "meh" team with two crucial drops and a fairly one dimensional offense. We should have done this in 3 of our 4 losses, then I'd be excited.

And Pitt is just as mediocre as NC State. After that, we face really bad teams. So I worry about us somehow patching together a decent run to end this season and the BoT not having the courage to remove Manny.

With all that said, give it up to the young kids. We have so much talent relative to our competition it is mind boggling. And Rambo and Mallory came through, so anyone worrying about our veterans giving up can relax now. If we only had some coaches...

Please tell me that wasn't the same NC State player that ran right past Isaiah Dunson on that 50 yard go. That's the long snapper?

Well, drops in a one point game probably mean more than in a loss that becomes a 38-17 blowout (like Michigan State)

And personally, when he talks about the team in the lockerroom, to me, its about him being a politician. ''Hey, yeah, I suck at my job but let me see if I can rationalize a way for me to keep it."

We can agree to disagree on that.

But yeah, Blake and Manny still need to go. Or this will be the repeated pattern

The thing that was interesting about that Jacolby George punt return, was that we had not one, but two, holding penalties. Patke might be the worst special teams coach Ive seen at Miami -- and that includes Dave Arnold

There are likely just as many people that would say you get George right back out there to not kill his confidence as there are that he should be been sent to the portal immediately.

I think we’re largely on the same page. The issue with the Mallory drop is it was a TD, following a King fumble driving…. Those two mistakes go the other way and that game doesn’t get to 38-17… we were making the comeback then strip sack and PIC and dead meat… we got smacked but that was a momentum game there for the taking and we gave them way more than enough to beat us (obviously by the score)

yeah, I hear ya. That Mallory drop, would've made it 13-3(with the PAT forthcoming). Yeah, you could argue that a blowout would've commenced. Problem is, we had a similar lead with App St

But the track record has shown this Miami team simply isn't going to blowout anybody with a real pulse.

As for Rooster, I checked the box-score, he had 27 touches last night (21 runs, 6 catches) but my view is that how we utilize him is key. I like Cody Brown and Thad Franklin as our chain moving inside runners. I just dont like Rooster getting banged up inside. But I suspect some pass-pro issues may keep them from getting more playing time. Rooster looked really gassed on his last run, it was noticeable

Yall say sh*t like this and get excited for Mario Cristobal..who is making a career over wins in the pac 12 over meh teams.

I want Manny gone but yall like to sh*t on the acc....the talent level in the acc is only 2nd to the sec imo. Teams might be bipolar...but we arent playing against group of 5 level talent like in the pac 12.

Pitt and NC STATE have talent.

**** the best rb we played against this year was a guy at WAKE.

We need some real coaches though @grover i agree. A competent coaching staff at a minimum has us winning coastal side easily

if you look at the NFL Draft the past 15 years or so, ACC holds up well in terms of numbers of players drafted, etc, compared to every other conference that doesn't have SEC as their initials....

K9,

Even if Miami finds a way to beat Pitt, it doesn't change the fact Diaz and James still need to go and you obviously agree. Miami will never get out of irrelevancy under their failed leadership.

It is still nice to see Miami win though for the kids. They didn't cause the issues within the program now.

But the athletic dept at Univ of Miami needs overhauled asap. No exceptions.

Bring in Mario and a competent AD, and reap the benefits.

Go Canes!

One of the big issues in the ACC - IMO - is the lack of good offensive lines. Been a low key theme in the past few years, but the OL play in the ACC is horrendous and it makes the ACC look worse than it is.

Half of the ACC is in the bottom 50 in the nation in sacks allowed, just for one statistical example.

No argument there. But hey, there are games to be played, and Im still wacko enough to watch this shhhhh. Hey, Im a fan, I still give a ****. I want to see the youngsters play and see what the next guy in charge will have to work with
