Canes fans in the Orlando area

Orlando is littered with customer service douchbags. I live in Orlando and good help is extremely hard to find these days. I'm glad he changed it for you. Did you torture yourself like I did and watch every snap? I know a win is a win but I honestly don't think I have ever been as aggravated after a win as I was this past Saturday.
Yes

Again, nothing this year is official, but you might see some leftover Canes fans from years past there.

Orlando gonna Orlando....Especially in regards to the Canes...I'm beyond happy I left that place....
I never had a problem getting a Canes game on at a bar. However I'm good watching at home for the most part. My bar days are well behind me lol. Where did you move to?

Cool. I might head out that way for the Duke game. We'll see. I live on the other side of town close to Mall at Millennia.

I live in Broward but I was in Orlando last weekend because my gf gets her hair done there and we’ll just make a weekend out of it every 7 weeks or so. Anyway, her appointment was just after Miami GT kicked off so she dropped me off early at Gator Dockside in Baldwin park. Had a really strange experience. I sat at the bar, maybe 5 other ppl in the establishment at this point and one of the main bar TVs had on pitt/duke so I asked the bar tender to change it to Miami GT and she said oh you have to look at the helmets on the bottom of the screen to see what games will be on. The helmets were nfl teams, I said well those are pro helmets….can I speak to a manager I’m not trying to be difficult but it’s really odd that a sports bar won’t change a tv for a customer. So the manager comes ans says he can put it on a corner tv. I said well I’m by myself so I rather not sit at a table. I told him no one is Gonna want to watch pitt duke anyway and he goes well I can say the same about the canes as they aren’t very good this year. I almost bust out laughing for a couple reasons. Instead I told him well you realize the difference is that I’m here now requesting that game and there is no one requesting the pitt game ???? He changed it after some back and forth. But was a really odd interaction. Anyway rant over.

The managers comment was dead on and funny. Good comeback though.

I have been there. Cane alumni used to do gamewatches next door at the golf and games bar. They refused to watch at a place called Gators.

Sideshow downtown. (a bar on wall street) - its an FSU bar but all their TV's will be Miami/FSU game and sound on, no music bullshlt on. The FSU crowd there is nothing special anymore now that they suck

I’m actually considering a move to the Orlando area for a job I’m going for. Can you elaborate why you didn’t like it there?
Just an overrated town...Spent 20yrs there, left last yr....the last 15+ yrs, things started going downhill (Crime...Infrastructure etc...)

You are exactly right and I should know better than most having lived here through the 70's(1972-1980) and from 1988- the present. From 1980-1988 I lived in Miami. Anyway getting back to Orlando, it wasn't always overrated. When I came back in 1988 it was awesome. It had the best qualities of a smaller town/city in that everyone was extremely friendly and it was so easy to know a great number of people all around town. As well as the best qualities of a bigger city. All through the 90's it was great as well as the early 2000's. However in around 2005 things began to noticeably start to change and by 2010 it was a completely different city altogether and not in a positive way. This city has lost the charm it once had a long long time ago. It may be time for me to go as well.

Which areas of SW Florida would you recommend?

@FrancisSawyer I lived in Orlando from 91-93 then again from 01-2020....I liked the 91-93 circa wayyyy more. As far as SWFla goes...you really can't beat Sarasota (and closely surrounding areas) ...Siesta Key and Longboat Key is tough to beat....Unfortunately, nothing is the same in FL as the 70s and 80s...Dramatic changes State wide...I miss SWFla from 1975-1985...Loved it...I also lived in Miami in 1985 (Kendall)

Agree 100%. Orlando started to take a dive in around 2005 maybe a bit earlier. Funny you mention Longboat Key and Siesta Key. My dad used to take the family there in the late 70's through the mid to late 80's and I've been in love with that area ever since.

Do you remember Midnight Pass Rd back in the late 70's early 80's? There wasn't much there back in those days but that was what was so cool about it. I remember there was a Diary Queen and the was a burger joint named Joey's. We stayed at a few different places. There was Longboat Key Club, The Colony, Veranda, Sarasota Surf and Racquet Club. I was a young kid about 10-14 during that time. Great memories.

I moved to Ft Myers/Cape Coral in 74 (NY transplant)...my HS best friends Dad lived in Sarasota...so I spent alot of time there back then. Another friend in HS Dad, owned Bay Marina in Pt Charlotte...spent many hrs going tubing in Charlotte Harbor....

I think Brandon Merriweather has a bar/restaurant in Apopka.
I will be recording the game and watching it after EDC. Those jerks always schedule the festival for the same day as Miami-FSU, but this year they both looked so bad that I just bought tickets to that instead of shlepping my *** up to Tally. Now I am somewhat regretting that choice.

EDC **** it's that time already, my cane brother don't forget your penicillin, those EDC chicks are pretty loose with their goodies (not to be mistaken for having loose goods, LOL).

I know right back around 2005 Orlando even opened a BBW Strip club, your boy used to make it rain up there. On occasion I think I even saw @SWFLHurricane in there dropping off some delicious catering trays, but than lurking in the back taking in the show, with a Heineken in his left hand and a stack of $1's in the right.

Go Canes
