The Hurricanes were back in action on the Greentree Practice Fields for their second day of preseason camp, and after Friday’s practice, linebacker Wesley Bissainthe, offensive lineman Anez Cooper, running back Mark Fletcher Jr., and defensive back Zechariah Poyser all spoke with reporters.

Here are some of their best quotes after Friday’s practice as Miami moves one step closer to its Aug. 31 season opener against Notre Dame.

This is basically Si Si's 1st time being able to workout at Miami right now. With his 2 torn labrum's his FR year and then recovery from his surgeries last year he couldn't lift weights. Think about that. He looks great. Cooper beside him looks great, also. Coop is down to 335 lbs. This man was over 400 lbs in HS. He deserves his due. They both look great and I expect them to have a big year. While I expect the LB competition to be great, I want to give Chase Smith his due. He has gone through a lot with injuries. Last season, he would practice and then he would miss 2 or 3 practices from playing on that knee. It wasn't that he wasn't good enough anymore. Chase is the exact same measurables as Wiley and just as fast. I can't recall exactly what Heatherman told him in early Spring now, but it was basically, I am going to use you in so many different ways. Basically, he was his guy. He isn't wearing a sleeve or anything on that knee now. That was early Spring and we added 2 more LB's and Wiley has the talent so we will see. I feel much better about that group. Poyser deserves more convo. He has added good weight and was given the green dot. He's young, just arrived in the program and is given Ki Ko's mic to call plays. That says a lot about this young man. I like what I see on the field from J. Thomas. I personally don't get much out of non pad practices, but I like what I see in him so far. Mario remembered him from when he beat us at Middle Tenn. You should take notes on players and coaches that impress you. If this team gels early and stays relatively healthy, I expect a big season. They seem very focused and mature. This program from football administration, staff and talent is a world from where it was just 4 years ago. It really feels like this is the year, we are back. Fingers crossed and Go Canes.

Chase was my favorite defensive commitment that year that included JW, LT, Kam. I don't see him getting ahead of Toure or Wes. But man that would be the comeback story of the year if he contributes meaningfully.
