can we afford to keep Golden?

We can match anyone but Texas. If they want him they will offer insane money. I think he would take less to stay in Miami and become a legend until he decides to go to the league.

The buyout for Mack Brown is 2.7 million or $687,000 for the next 4 years. I am not sure what Golden's is but I would bet no less than 1.25 million. It would cost Texas a lot to fire Brown and hire Golden. They could easily go after a more well known coach which is what their fan base would want anyways. We don't lose coaches to other college or universities, we lose them to the NFL.

He will win us a title before he does leave, and when that happens, I will be able to lap up the angst of opposing fans and the media for a long time since they said Miami will "never be relevant again". That will sustain me through the rebuilding years of the next coach.

Maybe Im just a hopeless optimist but I think if he ever leaves UM it's for the NFL. I think he and his family love UM and South Florida and he wants to reap the rewards of what he's built.

He said it at his opening presser,"I got the best job in America'' It probably wasn't true then, but Golden can make it such and he wants to be there when it is.

I don't think Golden leaves UM till he has some titles around his neck like his tie.

Yes we can. If golden leaves, it's for a job like the steelers, eagles, or cowboys IMO.

Wow...

You think the Steelers would get rid of Tomlin. The Eagles just hired Kelly too, he is safe for another season or two. Also, Dallas is going to give the guy till the end of the year. He probably will make the playoffs too because the leader of that division may be 8-8.

Those 3 teams will not go after Golden.

This is in the future. Never did I say in my post anytime soon.

It's the Fins that are the problem. If the current dude goes the way of all the others, then Golden can go NFL and keep wife in Miami. After Golden pulls in his first NC in the next couple years, he will be solar hot. I think we are safe until he gets the NC, maybe even two. By then Chud will be out at Cleveland and available to take over.

Yea we could pay him 3.5 but golden is the kind of guy that would take that money and give his staff a raise... golden wants to win nat championships at Miami and that nfl money will come...

Most college coaches are paid by the Athletic Foundation at the school not the University...... Im not sure if that is the case with The U since it is a private institution. I would assume with all the BIG money NFL guys, the Rock and whomever else has ties to the U...we could come up with the money to keep Al at the U.

When's the last time UM lost a HC to another college? Contrary to popular belief, UM pays HCs very competitive salaries, and UM is not poor. The Don won't leave here because of money just like no one else has.

Thats a good trivia question. When was the last time a Head Coach left Miami for another college? The closest coach to that question I can come up with is Howard Schnellenberger and he didnt leave Miami for another school. He left for the pros.

As did Butch, Erickson and JJ.

Lou Saban left and coached Army the next year. Fran Curci left to coach Kentucky.

Despite Miami's improvement in 1978, Saban departed the school amid controversy. That April, three freshman Miami players attacked a 22-year-old ****** man wearing a yarmulke who was walking to religious services on campus.[84] They threw the man, who worked at a campus gathering place for UM's ****** community, into Lake Osceola at the center of campus.[84] When Saban returned to campus a few days later, he was unaware the man was ****** and reportedly said "Getting thrown in the lake? Sounds like fun to me."[84] Miami's ****** community complained, and despite numerous apologies, Saban offered to resign mid-season. Saban was convinced to remain through the end of the season, however, before leaving to coach at Army.

Dumb ***...

I wouldn't unless by "Texas" you mean Houston Texans than yeah. I wouldn't leave Miami. I'll at least have them come to a number close to 7 million.
