can we afford to keep Golden?

I don't think the germane question is whether the university can afford Golden. Instead, I think the better question is whether the university is WILLING to compensate Golden's staff as handsomely.

Alabama pays its OC and DC and position coaches such that they don't leave and the fluidity and consistency remain year in and year out--in terms of recruiting and play-calling.

It can be frustrating for a head coach to be hamstrung with selecting his staff if the university is being stingy.

Yes we can. If golden leaves, it's for a job like the steelers, eagles, or cowboys IMO.

Wow...

You think the Steelers would get rid of Tomlin. The Eagles just hired Kelly too, he is safe for another season or two. Also, Dallas is going to give the guy till the end of the year. He probably will make the playoffs too because the leader of that division may be 8-8.

Those 3 teams will not go after Golden.

Dallas is interesting. Golden is exactly the type of guy Jerry would consider. As we know, there's precedent. I actually don't think that's unreasonable speculation, especially if Dallas underperforms again this year.

I think Dallas will make the playoffs simple because of their division. That may be enough to keep his job. I think there are a bunch of intriguing names also available (Roman, Fangio, Quinn) that would get a chance before Golden or another college coach.

We can't afford to lose him.

Where are all of the jackmeats who were ****ed about his extension at the end of his first season?

College football programs are businesses. If the program makes money, the coaches (managers) get paid. I have no doubt the UM board (full of wealthy business people) will support reasonable contracts. The question is how much is reasonable.

On another note, IMO Golden will at least stay until we win one more NC. People are not always motivated by money. Once you have enough money to be comfortable (as Golden obviously does), there are other motivating factors, such as ego. As long as the program is successful his ego will be fed. The only job that realistically could take him away would be NFL -- if that's his ultimate career goal -- and he is the only one that knows it for sure.

The AD wants to remain cope titmice he knows when the football team is wining
It's more money for the school

He is putting special emphasis in continuing to upgrade all athletics mainly the
Football team this includes facilities being creative with game day experience
And paying coaches they understand that continuity at the coaching level is Important

pending our team continues to win and other teams begin to look at throwing money at Golden, how deep are our pockets? Can we afford to throw down 3-4mm per if need be?
Did you stay up all night trying to think of this highly original and not tired thread? If so thank you, I've been so wondering the same thing and wondering why it's never been discussed ad nausseum here.

I've never understood this!

Discussion forums are for discussion yet people are quick to jump on someone for wanting to discuss topics. So what if it's been done a million times do you have to discuss it every time it's brought up?

NO!!!

Why people feel the need to attack others is beyond me. I'm not attacking you... I'm just trying to understand the logic behind attacking someone for a discussion topic?

To answer the OP's question... I think Golden has done a lot to get Miami going in the right direction. We are top 5 in the nation recruiting with the cloud of uncertainty still over our head. That's says a lot by itself... while we have been down for sometime a healthy Miami is a job that's not second to anyone! You have a Miami team back in the spotlight... there is no need to go to any other school! The only place that would be considered an promotion is the NFL. A healthy Miami can recruit with anyone in the nation and there's a lot more here compared to being in Alabama or Austin Texas... maybe LA has other stuff in terms of glamour and glitz but is Cali considered better than Miami,FL? I guess that depends on who you ask... I've been to LA, NY and many other cities none of them I would say is better than Miami... just different.

He isn't going anywhere he seems to really love UM. I know its kind of unheard of in this day and age but he might really be a lifer here. He'll never leave us for another college job and there is a very very good chance he'd never leave for the NFL either.

They used to tell me that about Jimmy Johnson and he left. Still, I think Al Golden is more genuinely interested in the college game and loves what he's doing. I hope he and his family like south Florida. You guys must have read or heard things about whether they like it down there. Coaches always say they do. If the family likes it, and we can raise his salary, I don't see why he would leave.

Competing with the pros is different. Some coaches want to be there and take on that challenge, some coaches don't.

We didn't lose JJ to another college, nor Schnelly, Butch or Erickson. I have the upmost confidence that this school will do anything to keep Golden. They showed confidence in him and already extended him to 2020.

No reason to worry about it now, but don't act like its not something to think about down the road. Shoot, Alabama is worrying about losing Saban, and they have very deep pockets...

Why do miami "fans" do this? complain all day when we lose, complain about a coach not winning fast enough, then when the coach begins to win, start complaining or speculating about when or if the coach will leave? most pessimistic fan base of all time. SMH

Why do we need to worry about it?

Are we responsible for the next coaching search?

Are we going to have to come up with more money on Canesinsight to take care of Golden?

Please advise.

Jones will try to catch lightning in a bottle for a second time and grab another UM HC. He'll see a young JJ there with The Don. There's also the Parcells connection with Dallas, and Parcells is The Don's hero. The NFL is the ONLY place I'm concerned about when it comes to The Don, and Dallas gives me the creeps.

Alabama's OC and DC don't make all that much.

They're all on RCT unless they got booted off there again. They're all looking to invent new reasons why The Don isn't all he's cracked up to be and why he needs to quit talking so much.

Because Miami fans are miserable mopes.
