How is Michigan ranked higher than us with less commits and a lower avg. rating? I know none of us should give a crap, but it really makes no sense.

You know other teams get commits too? And sometimes those commits are ranked higher than a composite top 600 3*.

They got a 3 star commitment too today. Again, their class avg. is still lower with 4 less commitments than the canes’.

We were ranked 10th yesterday, and then we flipped a recruit today and dropped to 11th
Michigan flipped a low 3* LB from USF with an 86 rating and we just flipped a recruit with an 88 rating, higher than them and yet somehow they went ahead of us and we have the higher recruit average and have more recruits. They are using some magic math over there.

I kinda think this is why it’s easy to get too bent out of shape over recruiting rankings.

Especially now that we can bring in bigger class sizes I’d think the formulas probably need updated. You can afford to take in a few more developmental guys and hope to hit. Guys like Toney, Upshaw, Simpson were 3* that have already shown a lot of promise.

We do this every single year… the reason Michigan has a higher class total even though their average is slightly lower and they have less commits, is they have more highly rated guys than us at the top. Having two 5 stars alone probably does that.

So what’s the point of showing the average rating of the recruiting class?? Does that mean if a team has four 5 stars and 20 2 stars they’ll be rated higher than the Canes?? Even if their class rating is dragged down by the 2 stars and their class rating is lower?

None of this matters in the big picture, it’s just not mathing to me.

5 stars / top 100 etc carry more weight because to a certain degree they typically impact a team more.

So yes, 3ea five stars plus a 1 star long snapper will be ranked higher than 4ea four stars even though they have the same overall average rating.

There is a formula and it 100% maths. The average is another way of looking at the ranking, like anything they want to show multiple layers of it. That all said, their formula adds bonuses for tier of recruits. You get the largest bonuses for 5 stars, then top 100 guys and so forth.

A great example of this if you remember was UF’s class from 2023. They were boasting their average and the fact that they at one point had twenty plus 4 stars and only 2 or 3 3 stars. Well their 4 stars for the most part were around the 90-93 range. They had a lower ranking than us even though we had closer to 10 3 stars because we had something like 5 top 100 guys plus a couple of more top 150 as well.

The more guys you get, the lower the value each guy counts. They try to combat teams like miami under shannon of getting #1 just cause you sign 40 guys. Go to the calculator and add and subtract guys and you can see. The bottom of the commit list might only count .1 towards your total
