2015 LB Cameron Smith is an ideal LB option for the style of 3-4 defense UM currently runs hopefully UM offers very soon. Smith plays the position with bad intentions and has a very high Football IQ (FBI) which compensates for his lack of foot speed at 6'3" and 250lbs. Smith has the size an strength to shed blockers yet still play in space against many of the west coasts pass happy offenses, which is impressive considering many big LB's are a liability in pass coverage but Smith's instincts allows him to diagnose plays quickly to cut off WR routes when he drops into coverage.

He also wrestles and has dropped 30lbs to make competition this spring, but now feels he is stronger and faster than ever which will most likely help his 40yd time at future combines. But make no mistake about Smith's ability to run sideline to sideline when it counts he has football speed which is what counts when combined with a High FBI he is always in the right place to make a play on the ball.

Smith is the nations #5 Inside Line backer an has had Miami listed in his Top 6 (UCLA, Nebraska, Florida, LSU, USC and Miami) going back to last year despite not having an offer from the Canes. UCLA is his #1 school now because the LB coach was a 49er and Smith is wants to be coached by a NFL great (This is were having a M. Barrow on staff pays huge dividends)

"UCLA is probably the top one as of right now," said Smith. "I love the coaching and when it comes to what they bring to the table. The middle linebacker coach is a great guy. He's an old 49er and I'm a huge Niner fan. Jim Mora has done a great job with the team and that would be my top school as of right now even though it's so early."

But some new teams (Bama and Mich) are taking notice of Smith which has the stoutly built Linebacker seriously considering leaving California to play College ball and his parents are in agreement.

"I want to get out of California," said Smith. "I think it's a great state, but I want to go to that college where football is everything. A place where everyone wants to go see a college football game. There's so many things you can do in California and a lot of people would rather go to the beach than see a game. I have been talking to my parents and I could really see myself out of California and living a different life. It's not a problem for me to move across the nation."

not gonna happen, please stop.

Why is it not gonna happen considering UM has been in his Top 6 since last year, he wants a great academics an is serious about that, as well as wants to be coached by NFL caliber LB coach. All which UM has in spades, so please share you in your infinite wisdom think its not going to happen with smith.

Go Canes

since last year? I'm willing to be an interview today would look a lot different. not playing lb here. yeah, and the fact that 40 times are fudged doesn't help. that means 5.1.
and the kid looks pretty **** good.
kid will not be listing UM in his top 5 and will not visit, will stay out west.

What part of that sounds like Miami football to you Paranos?

When is this site going to finally make Paranos a staff writer? Dude puts in more work than everybody, including Peter, searching for young, large men that he can evaluate on youtube. Personally, I think you have gone far too long in extending him an offer. He deserves it. We deserve it.

6'2 250 and runs a 4.94 forty per his hudl video. Way too slow.

As a ILB in our scheme its his quickness and inside strength that is more important, we have other players that can chase down a ball carrier who breaks contain. Smith is a 20yd Beast and he also has incredible instincts watch his highlights he is always in the right place. Think of it this way Manti Teo (ND), Luke Keuchley (BC), Max Bullough (MSU), and Chris Borland (Wisc) are/were considered to slow an yet they were all-Americans and medium high NFL draft picks. Also its funny how Bama and Michigan have sent coaches to see him and want to bring him for JR days, yet he according to some here he is two slow for Miami but not the two winningest programs in college football history.

So for our scheme I will take smart football players all day, this is the kind of kid that goes to Stanford then ends up a nfl player. I get the sense that once he commits it will stick, so this where Brennan Carroll teaming with Barrow can pay dividends to pull this kid in.

Smith Said the following which is absolutely true
"My knowledge of the game i great as I've played all positions, including quarterback as a freshman," said Smith. "I really pride myself on making my pre-snap reads and my in-play reads and guards. I really pride myself on doing that work and I feel like a smart player all-around. I am competitive and I love to make plays and do whatever I can for my team. My tackling is really good and it goes well with my ability to make plays from sideline to sideline. When it comes to how I get to the ball and the lines I take, they are fine. I always take great angles."

lol, no insider info. just 23 years of following recruiting.
there is about a 90% chance it will play out like I said. should be interesting to read his latest update on his top schools and who he's considering and has offers from, who is recruiting him, etc.
based on his comments, it doesn't sound like UM

Paranos should be banned. All he does is write misleading, annoying, and unrelated **** like ol cuz TexCane.

Anyone that follows Smith's recruitment knows that he's going to either USC/UCLA. Its easy to search this **** on google Paranos...just stop. You are not an insider.

"but I want to go to that college where football is everything." I stopped reading after that. SEC and probably Bama.
