2015 LB Cameron Smith is an ideal LB option for the style of 3-4 defense UM currently runs hopefully UM offers very soon. Smith plays the position with bad intentions and has a very high Football IQ (FBI) which compensates for his lack of foot speed at 6'3" and 250lbs. Smith has the size an strength to shed blockers yet still play in space against many of the west coasts pass happy offenses, which is impressive considering many big LB's are a liability in pass coverage but Smith's instincts allows him to diagnose plays quickly to cut off WR routes when he drops into coverage.
He also wrestles and has dropped 30lbs to make competition this spring, but now feels he is stronger and faster than ever which will most likely help his 40yd time at future combines. But make no mistake about Smith's ability to run sideline to sideline when it counts he has football speed which is what counts when combined with a High FBI he is always in the right place to make a play on the ball.
Smith is the nations #5 Inside Line backer an has had Miami listed in his Top 6 (UCLA, Nebraska, Florida, LSU, USC and Miami) going back to last year despite not having an offer from the Canes. UCLA is his #1 school now because the LB coach was a 49er and Smith is wants to be coached by a NFL great (This is were having a M. Barrow on staff pays huge dividends)
"UCLA is probably the top one as of right now," said Smith. "I love the coaching and when it comes to what they bring to the table. The middle linebacker coach is a great guy. He's an old 49er and I'm a huge Niner fan. Jim Mora has done a great job with the team and that would be my top school as of right now even though it's so early."

But some new teams (Bama and Mich) are taking notice of Smith which has the stoutly built Linebacker seriously considering leaving California to play College ball and his parents are in agreement.
"I want to get out of California," said Smith. "I think it's a great state, but I want to go to that college where football is everything. A place where everyone wants to go see a college football game. There's so many things you can do in California and a lot of people would rather go to the beach than see a game. I have been talking to my parents and I could really see myself out of California and living a different life. It's not a problem for me to move across the nation."
